Abstract: There is provided a display device that enables to present an image on its screen at a desired resolution, in response to an operation by a user and on the basis of an image signal, even when the image signal is obtained from image data from which a resolution is not directly determinable. When image data from which the resolution is undeterminable is inputted, the display device presents thereon data input window that prompts the user to input desired values of the resolution and pixel clock at which the image is to be presented. The user then inputs his/her desired values of the resolution and pixel clock through the image-data input screen. Using the inputted values of the resolution and pixel clock, the display device presents the image on its screen based on the image data that is not normally supported by the display device.

Abstract: A picture display apparatus, which displays a picture on a display section based on a picture signal, includes an input determining section determining whether the picture signal is input, a display determining section determining, based on whether sight/hearing restricting information is added to the picture signal, whether the picture based on the picture signal can be displayed, when the input determining section determines that the picture signal is input, a scramble determining section determining whether the picture signal is scrambled, when the input determining section determines that the picture signal is input, and a display control section lowering a brightness of a backlight of the display section and displaying a predetermined display with hollow characters indicating that the picture cannot be displayed when the picture signal is not input, when the picture based on the picture signal cannot be displayed, and when the picture signal is scrambled.

Abstract: This digital broadcast recording/reproducing apparatus includes a control portion performing parental control of a digital television program on the basis of rating information. The control portion is formed to recognize whether or not the rating information is updated from that at the time of recording of the digital television program when reproducing the recorded digital television program and to inquire of the user as to whether or not to perform parental control of the digital television program if the rating information is updated at the time of reproduction.

Abstract: A digital broadcasting receiving apparatus includes a decision portion for deciding whether or not broadcasting of a received channel is scrambled based on information about scrambling included in a header of a packet of the received channel, and a setting control portion for controlling to set the channel in a channel map to be capable of being selected by the channel up/down key if it is decided that broadcasting is not scrambled, and to set the channel in the channel map to be incapable of being selected by the channel up/down key if it is decided that broadcasting is scrambled.

Abstract: A digital broadcasting receiving apparatus includes an operating unit with a channel up/down key, an EEPROM for storing a channel map in which a virtual channel and a physical channel are associated with each other, and a control unit for obtaining virtual channel information that is multiplexed with the physical channel that is currently received. When a tuning operation of the operating unit is performed, a comparing unit of the control unit compares the virtual channel information of the received physical channel with the channel map. If there is an unregistered virtual channel in the channel map, a registration control unit of the control unit registers the virtual channel in the channel map.

Abstract: A television receiver 100 receives, with a tuner 11, a television broadcast signal to which text data indicating emergency information is added, and displays an image on the basis of the received television broadcast signal. In the television receiver 100, a TS decoder 12 separates the text data from the received television broadcast signal, and temporarily stores the text data into a service information processor 15. Then, the separated text data is multiplexed with image data by a multiplexing processor 16 and outputted to a display module 30.
