    Abstract: A solid state switch comprises a photo-thyristor optically coupled to a light emitting diode for actuating the photo-thyristor; a photo-diode, with anode and cathode electrodes thereof connected to the cathode and anode electrodes of the photo-thyristor, respectively; and a second light emitting diode for activating, upon energization thereof, the photo-diode to keep the gate electrode of the photo-thyristor in a backwardly biased state. The second light emitting diode may be energized from voltage appearing between the anode and cathode electrodes of the photo-thyristor to form a zero-voltage activated solid state switch.
