  • Patent number: 5868817
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for efficiently dephosphorizing, dephosphorizing and decarbonizing, or desulfurizing, dephosphorizing and decarbonizing a hot metal in a converter. The amount of flux to be charged and the amount of bottom-blown gas are adjusted so that the bottom-blowing agitation power and the CaO/SiO.sub.2 ratio subsequent to the treatment become at least 0.1 kW/ton and from 0.7 to 2.5, respectively and the hot metal temperature at the treatment end point becomes from 1,200.degree. to 1,450.degree. C. Furthermore, the operation of the process is controlled so that the sum of a T.Fe concentration and a MnO concentration in the slag subsequent to the treatment becomes from 10 to 35% by weight by adjusting the top-blown oxygen feed rate, the flow rate of bottom-blown gas or the top-blowing lance height.

  • Patent number: 5690753
Abstract: A carbon steel containing super-finely dispersed oxide system inclusions, comprising, by weight, not more than 1.2% carbon, 0.01 to 0.10% Al, total oxygen of not more than 0.0050%, Mg which fulfills the relationship of the following formula:(total oxygen wt %.times.0.5).ltoreq.total Mg wt %<(total oxygen wt %.times.7.0)and Mg oxides comprising MgO.multidot.Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and free MgO.

  • Patent number: 5404931
Abstract: A method of manufacturing strips, bars and wire rods comprises continuously supplying molten metal into an open-top endless casting groove on an annular mold that is rotated around a vertical shaft, cooling the molten metal in the casting groove from outside by forcibly cooling the annular mold, and continuously taking out the cast section from the casting groove at a point where a solidified shell has been formed throughout the entire circumference of the molten metal in the casting groove. A roll is provided upstream of the take-out point to depress the top surface of the cast section, thereby keeping the cast section in close contact with the surface of the casting groove. The cast section then slides diagonally upward over a surface inclined at an angle of 5 to 60 degrees that is provided on the exit side of the above roll in the casting groove.

  • Patent number: 4567937
Abstract: A method and a device for electromagnetic stirring in a double casting type continuous steel casting apparatus using a pair of linear motor type electromagnetic stirring units opposing to each other, which are arranged in front and in rear of a plurality of cast steel pieces in such a way as to straddle them. The magnetic poles of these stirring units are caused either to move in the same direction in a reciprocal motion, for example, from the left to the right and vice versa or to circulate in the same direction from one of the opposed unit to the other.
