  • Patent number: 11731658
Abstract: A vehicle control device or method controls an output of a drive source of a vehicle based on a color of an illuminated signal of a traffic light in a vehicle-advancing direction during travel in autonomous driving. The vehicle control device includes a control unit that estimates the color of the currently illuminated signal of the traffic light based on oncoming vehicle information and controls the output of the drive source based on an estimation result when the color of the illuminated signal of the traffic light cannot be acquired by the onboard camera. The control unit limits the output of the drive source and reduces a vehicle speed from a current vehicle speed to a vehicle speed at which fuel efficiency is superior to that at the current vehicle speed when the color of the illuminated signal of the traffic light is estimated to be red.

  • Patent number: 6463896
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for controlling a position of an electromagnetically operated engine valve for an internal combustion engine. During the engine stop, a controller determines whether a cranking operation failure causes the engine stop (a step S1) or an engine stall causes the engine stop (a step S2). In a case where an ignition switch is turned to ON with the engine stop or the ignition switch is turned to OFF with the engine stop due to the failure in the cranking operation, the engine valve (either an intake valve or exhaust valve) is held at a valve open position or a valve closure position for a predetermined period of time based on an engine coolant temperature or the number of times the cranking operations have failed after the engine stops (steps S3 through S8). Thus, it is not necessary to initialize the engine valve at a time of the engine restart during the engine stall or during an idle stop. The engine can quickly be restarted with a power consumption saved.

  • Patent number: 5150689
Abstract: A fuel tank vapor control system is provided with an improved device for warning of malfunction of a canister. The device judges on malfunction of the canister on the basis of whether opening of a purge passage is effective for causing an inside temperature fall of the canister. In order to prevent an erroneous judgement on malfunction of the canister on the basis of an overflow condition of the canister, a purge passage is first closed so that the canister fully adsorbs hydrocarbon vapors from a fuel tank and then opened so that an inside temperature fall of the canister occurs. Opening and closing of the purge passage is repeated for several times so that a reliable judgement on malfunction of the canister is formed after lapse of a certain time and under a different operating condition of the canister.

  • Patent number: 5105789
Abstract: A failure checking apparatus for use with an internal combustion engine associated with an evaporated fuel purging unit having a canister adapted to accumulate evaporated fuel from a fuel tank. Communication is provided between the canister and the engine to introduce the evaporated fuel from the canister to the engine. The communication is interrupted to permit the canister to accumulate evaporated fuel from the fuel tank when a parameter related to a rate of evaporated fuel produced in the fuel tank exceeds a predetermined value. The communication is introduced into the canister and resumed to permit evaporated fuel to be introduced from the canister to the engine a predetermined period of time after the communication is interrupted. An air/fuel ratio at which the engine is operating is sensed for detecting a first value representing the air/fuel ratio when the communication is held interrupted and a second value representing the air/fuel ratio after the communication is resumed.
