  • Patent number: 6126759
Abstract: This invention is to provide a steel sheet for 2-piece battery cans, which has excellent formability in DI molding to give thin-walled, side body parts, and, more preferably, a steel sheet for 2-piece battery cans, which, after having been formed into cans, has high mechanical strength and excellent anti-secondary work embrittlement with excellent corrosion resistance. The steel sheet for 2-piece battery cans of the invention contains S and O (where O is the total oxygen content) while satisfying the conditions that S is from 0.005 to 0.015 wt. %, preferably from 0.005 to 0.012 wt. %, that 0 is from 0 to 0.0025 wt. % and that [S/10+O].ltoreq.0.0035 wt. %, preferably [S/10 +0].ltoreq.0.0030 wt. %. More preferably, the steel sheet contains B of from 0.0005 to 0.0015 wt. % while satisfying 0.2.ltoreq.B/N.ltoreq.1.0, or contains either one or both of Cr of being from 0.03 to 0.10 wt. % and Ni of being from 0.01 to 0.10 wt. %, the total of the two being not larger than 0.10 wt. %.

  • Patent number: 5436058
Abstract: A laminated steel sheet for cans comprises: a steel sheet; a metallic chromium plated layer with a 5 to 150 mg/m.sup.2 coating weight formed on the sheet; a hydrated chromium oxide layer with a 3 to 15 mg/m.sup.2 coating weight in terms of chromium formed on the metallic chromium layer; a bonding layer formed on the hydrated chromium oxide layer; and a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate resin film formed on the bonding layer with a strip-shaped margin left for welding, the bonding layer being obtained by curing an adhesive having bisphenol A epoxy resin which has 15,000 to 30,000 number average molecular weight and is from 70 to 90 wt. % of said bonding layer with the remainder being resol phenol resin which has a base of bisphenol A. Other related laminated sheets are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4898649
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an electrolytically chromated steel sheet, comprising the steps of: subjecting a steel sheet intermittently to a plurality of runs of cathodic electrolytic chromate treatment in an acidic electrolytic chromating solution. At least one of these plurality of runs of cathodic electrolytic chromate treatment is carried out at a high electric current density within the range of from 90 to 200 A/dm.sup.2, to form on at least one surface of the steel sheet a chromating film comprising a metallic chromium layer as a lower layer having numerous granular projections over the entire surface thereof, and a hydrated chromium oxide layer as an upper layer. The electrolytically chromated steel sheet manufactured in accordance with the method of the present invention is excellent in a secondary paint adhesion and a weldability, and has a satisfactory surface hue.

  • Patent number: 4875984
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an electrolytically chromated steel sheet, comprising the steps of: subjecting a steel sheet to an anodic electrolytic treatment with a quantity of electricity of from 0.3 to 30 coulomb/dm.sup.2 in an acidic electrolyte containing at least one of chromic anhydride, chromate and bichromate, to form a hydrated chromium oxide film having numerous holes and numerous thin portions over the entire area of at least one surface of the steel sheet; and then subjecting the anodically treated steel sheet to a cathodic electrolytic chromate treatment in an acidic electrolytic chromating solution to form on the at least one surface of the steel sheet a chromate film comprising a metallic chromium layer as a lower layer having thereon numerous granular projections, and a hydrated chromium oxide layer as an upper layer.
