Patent number: 6643377Abstract: There is provided an audio output apparatus capable of providing an effect, with a limited number of speakers, as if the person displayed on the display screen is really speaking. When the television conference is started with a communication partner through a set top box, the image of the communication partner is displayed on the image displaying reflective plate. At the same time, ultrasonic waves superposed with the voice of the partner are emitted from a left speaker and a right speaker. The sound emitting directions of the left and right speakers are directed toward the image displaying reflective plate on which the partner is displayed. The ultrasonic waves emitted from the left and right speakers are reflected by the reflective plate and proceed toward the listener who can hear the voice of the partner as if the voice is directly emitted from the reflective plate.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1999Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Naoto Takahashi, Hirohiko Katayama

Patent number: 5563694Abstract: An apparatus performs emboss-printing. The apparatus forms an image on a print supporting member, such as a paper sheet, by using a powder printing member. The charge characteristics of the image and the print supporting member are different from each other. Because of the different charge characteristics of the two members, a thermoplastic developing agent is selectively attached to either the image portion or the non-image portion of the print supporting member. The attached thermoplastic developing agent is heat-melted to form an embossed image.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1995Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hirohiko Katayama

Patent number: 5103485Abstract: The invention relates to a pattern information reading apparatus in which pattern information such as characters or figures is read and stored in a memory and, thereafter, the stored pattern information is converted into tactile information and output as necessary. The apparatus has means for adjusting a moving speed of the pattern information which is output as tactile information. The apparatus is fitted to the reading capability of the user by such an adjustment. The apparatus also has means for comparing to see if the information which has been read at a preceding time point coincides with the information which was read at the present time point or not with respect to the pattern information such as characters or figures. By updating the different read information, the amount of storage data can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1989Date of Patent: April 7, 1992Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasuhiro Yamada, Yasuko Miyazaki, Mikiharu Matsuoka, Takashi Kanemoto, Hirohiko Katayama

Patent number: 5091865Abstract: A pattern reading apparatus includes a conversion device for reading optical pattern information and converting it into electrical signals. A display device is provided for displaying pattern information by vibration of plural vibrating pins, the displayed pattern information corresponding to the pattern information read by the conversion device. A reading period determining device is provided for variably setting the reading period of the pattern information read by the conversion device, and a control circuit causes the electrical signals output from the conversion device to be displayed by the display device according to the reading period set by the reading period determining device.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1991Date of Patent: February 25, 1992Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasuhiro Yamada, Yasuko Miyazaki, Takashi Kanemoto, Mikiharu Matsuoka, Hirohiko Katayama

Patent number: 4881900Abstract: Selecting switches are provided near a converter for converting an optical image into an electric signal, thereby enabling the electric signal before or after it was stored to be effectively selected. A plurality of convertors are provided and when an electric signal is not output from one of the convertors, the other convertors can be used. The analog electric signal output from the converter is binarized by a reference level signal before it fluctuates. An electric power consumption when the apparatus is not used is prevented by a power controller arranged near a sensing display.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1987Date of Patent: November 21, 1989Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Mikiharu Matsuoka, Yasuhiro Yamada, Yasuko Miyazaki, Takashi Kanemoto, Hirohiko Katayama, Tamao Ikuta

Patent number: 4831653Abstract: A system for having a mode for registering storing a necessary typical spoken word pattern for use in speech recognition and inputting a same spoken word a plurality of times. In the mode for registering a word pattern, a previous input spoken word, input prior to the Nth time, is reproduced. After listening to the reproduced spoken prompt word, the Nth input of the same spoken word is effected. The system registers one typical spoken word of a well-averaged voice pattern with high accuracy while increasing the system speech recognition rate.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1987Date of Patent: May 16, 1989Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hirohiko Katayama

Patent number: 4651299Abstract: A data processing apparatus for training hearing and/or speech impaired children or for teaching different subjects has a main control section, keyboards for inputting data, a ROM for storing a control program, and a RAM for storing the input data, a CRT display for displaying the input data, and a printer for printing out the data. The apparatus allow simultaneous data input by an instructor and students and can print out the input data in accordance with the sequence it is inputted.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1984Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasuko Miyazaki, Mikiharu Matsuoka, Sakae Horyu, Takashi Kanemoto, Hirohiko Katayama

Patent number: 4587663Abstract: The invention provides a conversation device having a space key for instructing feeding of a printing tape without printing, a pulse oscillator for producing pulses of predetermined period upon depression of the space key, a counter for counting the pulses generated from the pulse oscillator, a one-shot multivibrator for producing a pulse to indicate that the count value has reached a predetermined value, a flip-flop which is set by the pulse from the one-shot multivibrator and allows the pulses from the pulse oscillator to be supplied to a motor driver for amplifying the pulses and which is reset when the predetermined number of pulses from the pulse oscillator is received and prohibits the supply of the pulse oscillator to the motor driver, and a pulse motor for feeding the printing tape without printing. Therefore, when the flip-flop is set, the motor driver causes the pulse motor to drive the printing tape for a predetermined length corresponding to a plurality of characters.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1982Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Mikiharu Matsuoka, Hirohiko Katayama, Sakae Horyu

Patent number: 4580133Abstract: A display device for providing assistance in phonation training or the like has a microphone, comparators, latch circuits, and LED's. When a teacher produces reference sounds, his voice spectrum is displayed on a screen by red LED's, for example, and is continuously displayed until commanded otherwise. Then, a student practices and his voice spectrum is displayed on the same screen by green LED's. The student can repeatedly practice by erasing his voice spectrum until the two spectra coincide with each other. A teacher's voice spectrum may be stored in a ROM or the like in advance. When a student wishes to practice, the teacher's voice spectrum may be read out from the ROM and displayed on the screen. The student can then practice in a similar manner.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1983Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Mikiharu Matsuoka, Hirohiko Katayama
