    Abstract: An image forming apparatus which can shorten a first printing time in accordance with a recording mode without increasing electric power consumption is provided. When a reception signal is absent, if a copy key has been depressed, the image forming apparatus is switched to a copy mode, and temperature control is started by supplying a heater of a thermal fixing device with electric power. When the user operates a start key to start copying after setting an original and copying conditions, it is determined if the heater has reached a fixable temperature. If the result of the determination is affirmative, a copying operation is completed by performing image formation and fixing on a recording sheet. When a reception signal is present, image data is received, and after storing the image data in an image memory, temperature rise control of the heater is started.

This adjustment prevents the adhesion of the recording medium and ink sheet, thereby eliminating image omissions and density irregularities in the recording. Preventing adhesion of the recording medium and ink sheet results in improved image recording quality, and also helps to reduce trouble resulting from the ink sheet or recording medium being cut off.

    Abstract: A record head is energized in accordance with received image data to transfer an ink of an ink sheet to a record medium and perform image recording on the record medium while the ink sheet and the record medium are fed in opposite directions. The rotation period of a roller driven during feeding of the record medium or the feed direction of the record medium is detected to detect adhesion between the ink sheet and the record medium. When adhesion between the ink sheet and the record medium is detected, a recording operation is interrupted to feed the ink sheet and the record medium to release adhesion between the ink sheet and the record medium. When the adhesion is released within a predetermined time period, the recording operation is continued. When the adhesion is not released within the predetermined time period, an alarm sound is issued.
