    Abstract: A gas sensing element and a gas sensor using such a gas sensing element are disclosed. The gas sensing element includes a ceramic substrate having a surface on which electrode pads are provided to be brought into contact with abutment portions formed on contact terminals connected to external leads. The electrode pads are made of mixed material containing noble metal and ceramics. The electrode pads have surface regions, available to be held in contact with the contact terminals, each of which has a noble metal content greater than that of each of bonding regions of the electrode pads tightly bonded to the ceramic substrate.
