    Abstract: A thin film of an amorphous alloy comprising (i) at least one element selected from Fe and Co, (ii) at least one element selected from Pt and Pd and (iii) at least one element selected from (a) 3d transition elements other than Fe and Co, (b) 4d transition elements other than Pd, (c)5d transition elements other than Pt, (d) light rare earth elements, (e)Group III B elements, (f)Group IV B elements, (g)Group V B elements, and (h)Group VI B elements, and the film having an easy axis of magnetization perpendicular to the film face. The thin film has excellent magnetooptical characteristics including increased coercive force and large Kerr-rotation angle and Faraday-rotation angle, and is excellent in resistance to oxidation and In consequence the coercive force and Kerr-angle of the film do not substantially change with time. The film has a high reflectance as well.

The mole ratio of polymerized units from the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene to polymerized units from ethylene is from 3:97 to 95:5 and the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene is incorporated in the polymer chain as polymerized units without ring-opening.The copolymer is prepared by copolymerizing ethylene with the 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene in a hydrocarbon medium in the presence of a catalyst formed from a vanadium compound and an organoaluminum compound which are soluble in the hydrocarbon medium.The copolymer has excellent transparency and a well balanced combination of heat resistance, heat aging resistance, chemical and solvent resistance, dielectric properties and mechanical properties such as rigidity.

C., of from 1.0 to 6.0 dl/g, (D) a weight average molecular weight/number average molecular weight ratio (Mw/Mn) of from 3 to 15, and (E) an iodine value index .alpha..sub.1 for the lower molecular weight components and an iodine value index .alpha..sub.2 for the higher molecular weight components, said .alpha..sub.1 and .alpha..sub.2 falling within the ranges -30.ltoreq..alpha..sub.1 .ltoreq.0 and 0<.alpha..sub.2 .ltoreq.30. Said copolymer can be obtained by copolymerizing ethylene, the .alpha.-olefin having 3 to 10 carbon atoms and polyene at a temperature of from about 40.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst composed of (a) a vanadium compound of the formula VO(OR).sub.n X.sub.
