  • Patent number: 5479323
Abstract: A vehicular cornering lamp system which can be adapted to all types and models of vehicles without having to change the correspondence of the illuminating angle with specific characteristics of the vehicle. The angular velocity of the vehicle is detected when the vehicle is traveling on a curve by an angular velocity sensor. Pulses from a distance sensor are counted to detect the vehicle's velocity. Angular velocity data and vehicle velocity data are latched by respective latch circuits. The reciprocal of the turning radius is calculated directly by dividing the angular velocity data by the vehicle velocity data in a divider. There is carried out an arithmetic operation of calculating the reciprocal of the turning radius after calculating the turning radius by dividing the vehicle velocity data by the angular velocity data. The illuminating angle can be approximated as a simple inverse function with respect to the turning radius.

  • Patent number: 5410456
Abstract: A vehicular cornering lamp system which reduces spark noise generated by a motor thereof, reduces wear of parts such as the brushes and commutator of the motor, and improves the rate of use of the power voltage of the system and thereby generates sufficient torque to rotate the motor. An illumination direction control circuit generates voltages to be applied to the two terminals of the motor according to differences between the output voltage of a lamp illumination angle sensor and the output voltage of a steering sensor.

  • Patent number: 5404278
Abstract: A vehicular cornering lamp system in which the amount of electric power consumed by the lamp is minimized. Until the angle of rightward (leftward) steering with respect to the position of straight-ahead steering reaches a predetermined angle .theta..sub.R (.theta..sub.L), the right (left) SI lamp remains turned off and the illuminating angle thereof is fixed to 30.degree. in the right (left) direction. After the point of time when the steering angle reaches .theta..sub.R R (.theta..sub.L), the right (left) SI lamp is turned on and the illuminating angle is changed in accordance with steering direction.

  • Patent number: 5151631
Abstract: A lighting circuit for a vehicular discharge lamp for lighting a discharge lamp using a DC power supply, comprises an OFF state detector, a DC input voltage detector and a power cutoff means. The OFF state detector detects an OFF status of a discharge lamp. The DC input voltage detector detects if a DC input voltage is within a predetermined range. The power cutoff means inhibits power supply to the discharge lamp when the OFF status of the discharge lamp is detected by the OFF state detector and the DC input voltage lying off the predetermined range is detected by the DC input voltage detector, and permits power supply to the discharge lamp upon reception of a signal indicating that the DC input voltage has returned within that range.

  • Patent number: 4970906
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining a rotation center of a rotary body comprises a rotary body rotating in clockwise and counterclockwise directions in cooperation with the steering for a vehicle, and original position detecting circuit which detects a predetermined original angular position which the rotary body taken per each rotation, thus judging an original angular position taken when other original angular positions are not detected within a lapse of a predetermined time after the original angular position has been detected as rotation centers in the clockwise and counterclockwise directions of the rotary body.

  • Patent number: 4968896
Abstract: A light projecting angle adjusting apparatus for a vehicle headlamp, where the division voltage points of a resistor device, across which a supply voltage is applied, are selected one at a time, to provide different division voltages as set voltages. A division voltage provided by a reference resistor device across which the supply voltage is applied is defined as a reference voltage which is compared with the selected set voltage. An output signal is generated according to the result of comparison and the light projecting angle of the headlamp is adjusted to a value which is determined from the output signal.

  • Patent number: 4943893
Abstract: An automotive illumination system with which, when steering the vehicle around a curve or corner, both the path along which the vehicle is to travel and the direction straight ahead of the vehicle are sufficiently illuminated. Four headlamps are provided. Two of the headlamps, preferably the outer two, have directions of illumination fixed in the straight-ahead direction of the vehicle. The other two headlamps have directions of illumination which are controlled in accordance with the steering angle of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4908560
Abstract: In a vehicle cornering lamp system, a control signal having a pulse width corresponding to a steering angle is periodically produced, and the amount of position shift between the actual direction of illumination of the headlamps and the target direction of illumination determined from the steering angle is detected according to the control signal thus produced. An electric motor is driven to change the direction of illumination of the headlamps so that the amount of position shift becomes zero, that is, the direction of illumination of the headlamps is linearly changed with the electric motor while following the steering angle.

  • Patent number: 4733333
Abstract: A cornering lamp system for a vehicle which changes direction of the headlamps in conjunction with the operation of the vehicle's steering mechanism. The headlamps are moved in discrete steps by use of a stepper motor. The headlamps move in the direction which the vehicle is turning, and the headlamp closest to the center of rotation moves prior to the headlamp further from the center of rotation. A delay circuit causes the headlamps to move a predetermined period of time after the direction of the steering wheel is changed.
