  • Publication number: 20010008818
Abstract: An outboard engine system includes a casing having a driving-force transmitting device provided therein, and an engine for transmitting power through the driving-force transmitting device to a propeller. The casing and the engine are carried on a hull for tilting-up movement. An engine cover made of a synthetic resin covers at least an upper portion of the engine, and an undercover comprises a pair of cover halves made of a synthetic resin and connected to each other to cover at least a lower portion of the engine from opposite sides. The undercover is detachably connected at its upper end to a lower end of the engine cover and fixed to an upper portion of the casing. In such outboard engine system, the undercover is detachably fixed at its upper portion to a body of the engine. Thus, the undercover can be supported so as to give an impression that the engine cover and the undercover are rigid during a tilting-up operation.

  • Publication number: 20010008819
Abstract: An outboard engine system includes a 4-cycle engine. The engine includes an engine block, a cylinder head coupled to the engine block and having an intake port in one side thereof, a carburetor including a carburetor body disposed on one side of the engine block adjacent the intake port and having an intake passageway, and a bypass-type starting device mounted to the carburetor body, and an intake pipe means which connects the intake passageway and the intake port to each other. At least an upper half of the engine including the carburetor is covered with an engine cover. In such outboard engine system, the bypass-type starting device of the carburetor is mounted to the carburetor body between the intake passageway and the engine block.

  • Patent number: 5989084
Abstract: In an outboard marine engine having a vertically oriented crankshaft, a bracket for supporting an AC generator is provided with a pair of cantilever arms for supporting a pivoted portion and a fixed portion of the AC generator, and a belt cover for the engine is partly supported by extensions of these cantilever arms. The bracket is typically mounted to a portion of the crankcase defining a corner between a vertical end surface and a horizontal top surface. By thus securing the belt cover to the bracket for securing the AC generator, it is possible to firmly support the belt cover and prevent undesirable rattling or vibration of the belt cover because the bracket is given with a sufficient rigidity from the need to firmly support the electric generator. Therefore, the firm support of the belt cover can be accomplished without any substantial cost increase.
