  • Patent number: 5105593
Abstract: A weatherproof curtain wall unit (U) comprises a rectangular frame (F) enclosing a panel (P) therein and a resilient weatherstrip (A) provided at least along a pair of vertical sides and an upper side of the rectangular frame (F). The resilient weatherstrip (A) is offset between the vertical sides and the upper side to prevent a gap from arising between the resilient weatherstrips (A, A) of the adjacent curtain wall units (U1, U2, U3).

  • Patent number: 4625482
Abstract: A unit type curtain wall is disclosed, which has a plurality of connected curtain wall units each of which consists of vertical and horizontal elongated members tied together to form a rectangular unit frame and a heat insulative panel mounted to close the opening formed by the elongated members. A space is defined between the outer sides and the room sides of the frames such that it communicates with the external atmosphere, and therefore contains therein air of the same temperature as the atmospheric air. However, the air in this space is prevented from directly contacting the unit frames by sealing members and heat insulating coupling means which together form the space.

  • Patent number: 4599838
Abstract: In a joint assembly of two adjacent curtain wall units, an exterior gasket is divided into a pair of interfitting male and female halves carried by respective exterior parts of the adjacent vertical frame members. An interior gasket mounted between opposed interior parts of the adjacent vertical frame members has opposite edge portions each fitted in a recess of the respective interior part and projecting beyond the interfitting edges of the male and female gasket halves. In installation, one of the opposite edge portions of the interior gasket can be observed by the workman's eye through a gap between the male and female gasket halves while it is being inserted into the recess of the corresponding interior part.

  • Patent number: 4596099
Abstract: A heat-insulating frame assembly for use in a curtain wall construction includes an inner frame member and an outer frame member which are interconnected by a screw with an attachment and a spacer interposed between the inner and outer frame members. The spacer is made of a heat-insulating material, and composed of a pair of spaced side walls interconnected by a connecting wall. A block of a heat-insulating material is disposed between the side walls of the spacer. For assembling the heat-insulating frame assembly, the attachment is positioned on and fastened to the inner frame member, and then the spacer is positioned on and fastened to the attachment. Thereafter, the outer frame member is secured to the inner frame member through the attachment and the spacer.

  • Patent number: 4590725
Abstract: A sealing system for a curtain wall construction has a packing block of soft elastomeric material mounted at the cross joint betweeen four adjacent curtain wall units. At their one ends, first and second horizontal gaskets, each mounted between the upper and lower curtain wall units, are disposed against opposite sides of the packing block. First interior and exterior vertical gaskets are mounted between the two upper curtain wall units to define a first vertical space. The lower end of the first interior vertical gasket is disposed against the top of the packing block, while the lower end of the first exterior vertical gasket is spaced from the top of the packing block to define therebetween a drainage passage through which the vertical space opens to the exterior. Second interior and exterior vertical gaskets are mounted between the two lower curtain wall units to define a second vertical space.

  • Patent number: 4571905
Abstract: In order to assemble a unit type curtain wall, curtain wall units are successively mounted by the steps of positioning a lower edge portion of a curtain wall unit to be mounted relative to an upper edge portion of an existing curtain wall unit positioned therebelow in a direction orthogonal to a curtain wall surface to provisionally connect them together, moving the unit in a direction parallel to the curtain wall surface to connect with another existing curtain wall unit positioned to left or right, and thereafter perpendicularly moving the curtain wall unit to be mounted so as to be secured to a building body and the existing curtain wall units.

  • Patent number: 4565040
Abstract: Horizontally adjacent curtain wall units are supported by a fastener on a building skeleton frame. The curtain wall units have brackets, respectively attached to their confronting vertical frame members, each bracket having a hooked arm. The fastener includes a first fastener member positionally adjustably fastened to the building skeleton frame and a second fastener member adjustably attached to the first fastener member and having a narrow and wide slot. One of the hooked arms is fixedly engaged in the narrow slot and the other hooked arm is received in the wide slot for horizontal movement therein. The bracket and hence the vertical frame member attached thereto is allowed to move horizontally parallel to the curtain wall units.

  • Patent number: 4561228
Abstract: A unit curtain wall includes a plurality of curtain wall units each supported on a building skeleton frame by means of a pair of fasteners connected respectively to a pair of horizontally spaced vertical edges of the curtain wall unit. One of vertically adjacent horizontal edges of each pair of adjacent curtain wall units has a pin receivable in a hole in the other horizontal edge to hold the two vertically adjacent curtain wall units in vertical alignment. A sealing strip is disposed on the exterior side of the pin and extends along the one horizontal edge and sealingly receivable in a groove in the other horizontal edge to provide a fluid-tight sealing between the two vertically adjacent curtain wall units.

  • Patent number: 4557088
Abstract: In a parapet portion of a curtain wall, indoor side and outdoor side members of each panel unit mounted at the top of the curtain wall are connected via a connector made of heat-insulating material, and a damp-proofing sheet is mounted so as to extend between the indoor side member and a building body to form a heat-insulating damp-proofing layer, whereby the disadvantages that heat received by a coping from the external atmosphere would be transmitted to the indoor side of the curtain wall, resulting in deterioration of the heat-insulating property of the curtain wall, and that damp enclosed between the curtain wall and the building body would dew the inner surface of the coping, can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4281477
Abstract: A window or door unit comprises an outer frame, a sash or door mounted movably within the outer frame, and a sash or door removal prevention device. The device includes a blocking member supported on a header of the outer frame so as to be angularly movable between its horizontal and vertical positions. The device further includes means carried on the header for releasably retaining the blocking member in the horizontal position, whereby the sash or door can be prevented from being removed from the outer frame. When released from the retaining means, the blocking member pivots by gravity from the horizontal position to the vertical position where it is clearly visible, permitting the sash to be removed from the outer frame.
