  • Patent number: 7753606
Abstract: A roll paper printer having a roll paper compartment in which roll paper is mounted so that the roll paper is freely rotatable inside the roll paper compartment with the roll paper compartment designed to prevent the roll paper from meandering from a given path of travel along which the paper roll is unwound. The design of the compartment prevents the edges of the paper from catching on steps between pairs of roll paper guides connected to or forming the sides of the roll paper compartment. Movable roll paper positioning plates 31 and 32 are urged toward each other by a tension spring 37 in the roll paper compartment 9 of the printer 1 located near the top of one pair of roll paper guides 28 and 29. The movable roll paper positioning plates 31 and 32 have roll paper positioning surfaces 31a and 32a which can contact the outside circumference part of the ends 10b and 10c of the roll paper 10.

  • Patent number: 7553098
Abstract: A roll paper printer comprising a roll paper storage unit having a bottom surface on which a roll paper is held and rolls, an operable cover unit for opening and closing a roll paper loading opening to the roll paper storage unit, a roll paper size detection mechanism comprising a detection lever that can move in a direction protruding into the roll paper storage unit and a direction retracting from the roll paper storage unit, and an urging member for urging the detection lever in the protruding direction, wherein the detection lever separates from the roll paper and is pushed in the protruding direction when an outside diameter of the roll paper stored in the roll paper storage unit decreases to a predetermined size or less, and a detection lever retraction mechanism for moving the detection lever protruding into the roll paper storage unit in the retracting direction against the urging force of the urging member in conjunction with the operable cover unit opening.

  • Publication number: 20090147065
Abstract: An inkjet printer connects a vacuum fan on the printer case side and a vacuum platen on the cover side through a short vacuum path. The platen 8 moves in conjunction with the cover 3a of the roll paper compartment 7. The platen 8 is a vacuum platen having vacuum regions 32, suction holes 33, and a platen-side air path 36 on the platen 8 side, and a vacuum fan 34 and a vacuum duct 35 that connects the vacuum fan 34 to the suction unit of the platen 8 on the printer case 2 side. The vacuum duct 35 is disconnected from the suction unit of the platen 8 when the platen 8 moves in conjunction with the cover 3a, and the length of the vacuum duct 35 can therefore be short, corresponding to the distance between the intake opening of the vacuum fan 34 and the suction unit of the platen 8 when the cover 3a is closed. Because the vacuum path is thus short, a drop in air flow due to path loss is reduced, and the need for a large vacuum fan 34 can be avoided.

  • Publication number: 20090096854
Abstract: A roll paper printer enables opening the cover and platen using a 4-part parallel linkage mechanism without interfering with the inkjet head. The cover unit 3 for the roll paper compartment 11 of the roll paper printer 1 opens and closes by means of a 4-part parallel linkage mechanism. The back end part of the platen frame 24 part of this linkage mechanism is connected to the top end part of the rear parallel links 43 and 44 so that the 24 can move down. When the 3 is closed, a positioning boss 51 on the platen frame 24 side contacts and rides onto an inclined positioning shoulder 10c rendered on a side panel of the printer frame 10, holds the platen frame 24 horizontal, and positions the platen 25 to the inkjet head 22 with a predetermined gap therebetween.
