  • Patent number: 6575199
Abstract: Fuel supply pipe 43 includes a fixed fuel supply pipe 43b that comprises a metal, such as stainless steel, and connecting fuel supply pipes 43a, 43c that comprise a resin or similar material. The bulk resistivity of connecting fuel supply pipes 43a, 43c is chosen to be within the range from 107 to 1011 &OHgr;·cm. By doing this, the amount of electric charge that builds up in the fuel when the fuel passes through connecting fuel supply pipes 43a, 43c can be held low. Further, the electric charge that builds up on connecting fuel supply pipes 43a, 43c is not rapidly discharged. Therefore, spark discharge can be prevented from being generated on connecting fuel supply pipe 43a. Connecting fuel supply pipes 43a, 43c may have a multi-layer structure that includes an innermost layer having a bulk resistivity of 107 to 1011 &OHgr;·cm and an outermost layer having a bulk resistivity of about 1012 &OHgr;·cm or more.

  • Publication number: 20020100717
Abstract: A fuel filter apparatus may include a filter case having an exterior surface, a flange extending substantially perpendicularly from the exterior surface having at least one hole, a fuel inlet port and a fuel outlet port. A filter element may be disposed within the filter case between the fuel inlet port and the fuel outlet port. A fuel pump may be disposed within the filter case. A fuel pressure regulator also may be mounted on the fuel filter case. The fuel pressure regulator may have an excess fuel discharge port adapted to discharge excess fuel to the top surface of the filter case. The fuel filter apparatus is adapted to permit the excess fuel to return to a fuel reservoir through the at least one hole and along the exterior surface of the filter case.

  • Patent number: 6382190
Abstract: This invention relates to a filter in which a fuel pump for drawing fuel from a tank and a fuel filter unit for filtering foreign matter from the fuel which has been drawn from the tank by the fuel pump are integrally assembled together. More particularly, the invention relates to a filter improved such that the amount of electric charge, which builds up on the filter, is not increased to such an extent that the resin is rapidly deteriorated. In one embodiment, when forming a filter by assembling a generally cylindrical filter element around an outer periphery of a generally cylindrical pump, a cover for covering the filter element is made of a nonconductive material, and the generally cylindrical filter element is of the type which filters foreign matter from the fuel by causing the fuel to flow radially therethrough. With this type of filter element, the amount of electric charge can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6156201
Abstract: A fuel filter (10) has a filter case (11), and a return path (25) is provided on the upper surface of the filter case (11). Return fuel discharged from a pressure regulator is supplied to the return path (25). The return path (25) having a closed lower end is provided with branch paths (26). The return fuel supplied to the return path (25) passes through the branch paths (26) and flows down into fuel reservoir along the outside peripheral surface of the filter case (11). Electrical charge on the surface of the filter case (11) is reduced when the return fuel flows along the outside peripheral surface of the filter case (11). Kinetic energy of the return fuel is reduced by the energy absorbing effect of the return path (25), the energy distributing effect of the branch paths (26), and the energy absorbing effect when the return fuel flows down along the outside peripheral surface of the filter case. Thus, fuel return sound waves from the returning fuel dropping into the fuel reservoir are reduced.

  • Patent number: 5900140
Abstract: In a fuel filter module for introducing fuel from a fuel inlet into a casing and for removing foreign matter from the fuel by passing the fuel through a fuel member and for discharging the fuel through a fuel outlet to the outside of the casing, and the casing is formed to have a D-shaped cross section. With this construction, the outer diameter of the casing is not increased even when an accessory is assembled on the outside plane wall of the D-shaped casing. The casing accommodates a filter member of C-shaped cross section. The center of a C-shaped sealing member provided for sealing the upper edge of the filter member is offset from the center of the casing. By thus offsetting, sufficient areas for fuel inlet and outlet can be ensured without increasing the size of the casing.
