  • Publication number: 20050052784
Abstract: A compact hard disk drive that operates silently at a low power consumption needs a suspension assembly that places a low load on the magnetic head. In one embodiment, a suspension assembly comprises a head arm mounted on a carriage shaft, a load beam capable of placing load on a magnetic head and serving as a beam, and a flexure assembly. The flexure assembly includes a flexure formed by processing a thin metal sheet, an insulating layer laminated to the flexure, a wiring pattern formed on the insulating layer, and a protective layer coating the wiring pattern. The flexure has a flexible part for placing load on the magnetic head, a gimbals to which the magnetic head is attached, and a base part attached to the head arm. • Patent number: 6526516
Abstract: In a system to which a plurality of devices are connected, each device has heretofore required a connector for an AC adapter and a connector for a signal line. Further, in order to arrange it so that the amount of power supplied to the overall system will not exceed a limit value, it has been required to adjust the amount of power during system use by turning the power source of each device on or off. According to the present invention, a signal line for data transfer and a power line for supply of power in a system connecting a plurality of devices are consolidated in a single cable to make it possible to connect both lines to one connector of each device. The power controller of a certain device acquires the properties of a plurality of devices connected to this device, decides the optimum power distribution and controls the power controllers of each of the other devices.

  • Patent number: 6459549
Abstract: Apertures are formed in the portion of a flexure adjacent to the soldered portions between the bonding pads of the slider and the lead pads of lead end portions. With this, an adhesive agent for bonding the slider to a flexure tongue is moved downward from the apertures so there is no fear that the adhesive agent will contact the lead pads and the bonding pads. This design prevents the protrusion of an adhesive agent from short-circuiting the flexure, and absorbs a warp produced by shrinkage of a soldered portion by decreasing rigidity of the flexure. When both the bonding pad formed on the slider and the lead pad of a lead fixed to the platform of the flexure are disposed and soldered, the quality of the soldered portion is improved by locating the pads as close to each other as possible.

  • Patent number: 6364446
Abstract: A printing method capable of printing a high-quality image at a high speed and low cost and a corresponding printing apparatus are disclosed. In this printing apparatus, a shading-corrected mask pattern for multipass printing control in consideration of the characteristics of each printing element of a printhead is generated. The size of the mask pattern in the conveyance direction of the printing medium is set to be an integer multiple of the conveyance amount of the printing medium per scanning of the printhead. Image data masked using the mask pattern is transferred to the printhead and printed. Alternatively, the conveyance-direction size of the mask pattern for masking print data in accordance with each pass printing of multipass printing is set to be equivalent to the number of nozzles of an ink-jet printhead having a plurality of nozzles arrayed in the conveyance direction of the printing medium, and the mask pattern is dividedly used for each pass printing.

  • Patent number: 6362936
Abstract: A head support assembly for a disk drive is comprised of a head suspension assembly connected to an actuator arm at one end and supporting a head at the other end, wherein a projection is formed on a flexure closely fixed on a thin-plate load beam, said projection projecting toward a disk surface and having a smooth surface. The projection is formed at a region somewhat close to the head supporting end from the hinge portion of the load beam. When shock is applied to the disk drive, bending occurs around the hinge portion of the load beam. During such bending, the projection having a smooth round surface is caused to contact the disk, whereby the disk surface is prevented from being damaged.

  • Patent number: 5745972
Abstract: A system for producing parts/substrate assemblies each of which includes a substrate such as a ceramic substrate and a plurality of parts such as LSIs mounted on the substrate. After the LSIs for one lot of the production have been checked for excess or deficiency, etc. by a collating device, they are formed with solder bumps and then inspected. The LSIs are automatically arranged on empty work pallets as parts kits by a kit setting apparatus, and the work pallets on each of which the corresponding LSIs have been arranged as the parts kit are moved into a stocker. A host computer gives a command for mounting the LSIs on the ceramic substrate on which they can be mounted, on the basis of information indicating the stocked pallet and information indicating the progress of the ceramic substrate. An LSI mounting apparatus reads the serial No. of the introduced ceramic substrate, and requests the stocker to deliver the work pallet on which the associated LSIs have been arranged as the parts kit.
