  • Publication number: 20050160274
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to protect a copyright of a content by suppressing creation of illegal copies of the content and prevent a content from being transmitted beyond a range of personal use in a process to transmit the content through a wire or wireless LAN. Before transmitting a content from a content transmission apparatus to a content reception apparatus, the content transmission apparatus and the content reception apparatus authenticate each other. In the authentication, a timer measures a time interval between a transmission of an authentication request and a reception of an acknowledgement of a reception of the request or between a transmission of a response to a received authentication request and a reception of an acknowledgement of a reception of the response.

  • Publication number: 20050160265
Abstract: A copyright of a content is protected by preventing creation of illegal copies of the content and the content is prevented from being transmitted beyond a range of personal use in a process to transmit the content through a LAN. Before transmission of a content, a content transmission apparatus and a content reception apparatus perform a determination of authentication information available in a predetermined command accompanying authentication information, or an authentication determination based on a time until reception of a response to a predetermined command request accompanying predetermined authentication information. If the authentication is unsuccessful, the requested content is not transmitted to the content reception apparatus. With such arrangement, it is possible to effectively protect a copyright when a content is transmitted by way of a network.

  • Publication number: 20050089167
Abstract: If content is transmitted/received through a digital signal bus, protection of copyright causes a problem because of no deterioration in quality. Accordingly, authentication is required. The quantity of information to be processed is, however, so large that a long time is required for authentication. Accordingly, both achievement of handling property as in conventional analog connection and protection of copyrighted content without user's awareness become an object. The foregoing object can be achieved by authentication which is executed, for management of copyright, among apparatuses connected to the digital signal bus when the apparatuses are powered on or connected to the digital signal bus or when an input terminal connected to the digital signal bus is selected. The object can be further achieved by an encryption key shared among these apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20040268131
Abstract: Before content transmission, the content transmitting device and the content receiving device mutually authenticate each other to verify that the other device respects copyright and rightfully handles content, and then content is encrypted by shared key data and transmitted. It is arranged that in an authentication process, a time from transmission of an authentication request or a time from transmission of an authentication response until arrival of receipt acknowledgement data is measured and only when a measured time is less than a fixed upper-limit value, content is transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20040190857
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for receiving and/or reproducing a digital signal, capable of efficiently recording a compressed, packeted digital signal and inhibiting a copy thereof. An input packet signal is added with a time stamp indicating a relative time of an arrival of the packet, and the packet signals of digital information with the added time stamps are recorded at reduced intervals therebetween. In reproducing, a packet interval adjusting circuit restores the original packet intervals in accordance with the time stamps, and then a time stamp change circuit changes at least one bit of the time stamp and thereafter outputs the digital information.

  • Publication number: 20040165866
Abstract: An image recording and reproducing apparatus can record and reproduce both of a digital signal and an analog signal. Operations of a broadcast receiving apparatus and a recording and reproducing apparatus are integrated and superimposition of information on an analog image is realized during recording and reproduction of a digital signal. The broadcast receiving apparatus and the recording and reproducing apparatus communicate with each other to be able to set and obtain states of the opposite apparatus, so that one of the apparatus notifies information of the other apparatus to a user and causes the user to set the information in a picture having the same form as a picture used to notify a state of one apparatus to the user and to cause the user to set the state.

  • Patent number: 6771893
Abstract: For achieving a recording apparatus and a reproducing apparatus enabling to function an interface of digital signals even when recording and reproducing analog signals, wherein the analog signal reproduced in an analog signal recording/reproducing circuit is converted into the digital signal in an encoder so as to be outputted from an interface circuit when reproducing the analog signal, while the digital signal inputted from the interface circuit is converted in a decoder into the analog signal to be recorded when recording the analog signal. Further, it comprises a digital signal recording/reproducing circuit for recording/reproducing a first digital signal into a recording medium, a converter for converting between the first digital signal and a second digital signal, and an interface circuit for inputting/outputting the second digital signal.
