Patent number: 5037130Abstract: A knee protector for use in automotive vehicles has a knee protector body located beneath an instrument panel and extending in the lateral direction of the vehicle opposite the knees of a passenger. Support members are connected between the knee protector body and a rigid portion of the vehicle body. Each support member includes a folding portion which folds upon collision impact. Each support member also includes a cushion member bridging the folding portion of the support member. The cushion member is formed of a material which can absorb collision energy. The folding portion absorbs collision impact by stable deformation.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1989Date of Patent: August 6, 1991Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hiroo Okuyama

Patent number: 4668004Abstract: An instrument panel construction includes an instrument panel main body and a padding having a pad with a skin thereon. The main body and the padding are formed with openings mating with each other for receiving a finisher, such as a side defroster grille. The padding has a reduced thickness portion around the opening thereof. The reduced thickness portion is slotted to expose the instrument panel main body. The finisher includes latch devices which engage with edge defining the opening of the instrument panel main body. A plurality of abutment ribs extend between said instrument panel main body via the slotted portions and said finisher.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1984Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Katsuya Tsunoda, Hiroo Okuyama

Patent number: 4482187Abstract: A belt guide comprises a root portion secured on a base plate and an arm portion extending from the root portion to form a guide space between the arm portion and the base plate for receiving a safety belt. The arm portion has at its free end an inturned tongue turning toward the root portion. The inturned tongue is maintained in contact with the base plate. The belt guide permits entrance of the safety belt into the guide space under a force to cause the inturned tongue to lift off the base plate but prevents the safety belt from lifting the inturned tongue off the base plate to escape from the guide space.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1982Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideyuki Nagashima, Hiroo Okuyama
