  • Patent number: 6135448
Abstract: A plurality of sheets are fed along a plurality of rows of conveying paths in a state in which leading edges of the respective sheets in the conveying direction are spaced apart from each other in a longitudinal direction, and fed from an outlet of the conveying paths by a high-speed feeding means at a speed which is greater than or equal to a conveying speed of the conveying path. In the feeding section, the plurality of sheets are received by a moving endless belt, arranged, and then fed out. As a result, the present invention can provide a sheet conveying apparatus which has a simple structure and a simple control system and in which a plurality of the sheets which are conveyed along the plurality of rows of the conveying paths are fed while being arranged in a single row in the feeding section.

  • Patent number: 5128821
Abstract: A flying head slider has gas bearing rails formed on a surface thereof disposed in opposed relation to a recording medium. The flying head slider flies at a microscopic distance above the recording medium by a pressure produced by a stream of gas resulted from the rotation of the recording medium. Each of the gas bearing rails comprises an inflow portion disposed at an inflow side of the gas stream so as to produce a pressure, an outflow portion disposed at an outflow side of the gas stream so as to produce a pressure, and a connective portion interconnecting the inflow portion and the outflow portion in a common plane. The connective portion serves to suppress an excessive compression of the gas, and achieves good damping characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5014142
Abstract: A magnetic disk apparatus has a disk assembly including a single servo disk and a plurality of data disks, a servo-head supporting structure for supporting a servo head and data-head supporting structures for supporting data heads. These heads are so disposed as to cooperate with respective disks. The servo-head and data-head supporting structures are driven by an actuator to move the servo head and the data heads to the required positions on the corresponding disks. The servo-head supporting structure and each of the data-head supporting structures have different proper oscillations to prevent the occurrence of a resonance during a seek operation.

  • Patent number: 4984114
Abstract: A flying head slider for supporting a magnetic head operative to transmit information into and out of a recording medium has a slider body having a surface to be disposed in faced relationship to the recording medium. Positive pressure generating portions are formed on the surface of the slider body to generate a positive pressure during rotation of the recording medium relative to the slider body. A bearing is formed in the fluid-inlet end of each positive pressure generating section to enhance a bearing action due to abrupt compression of fluid. A bleed slot is defined between the positive pressure generating sections and has a fluid-inlet end provided with a negative pressure generating means, whereby the slider stably floats a predetermined distance away from the recording medium during rotation thereof to enable the magnetic head to transmit information.

  • Patent number: 4879618
Abstract: An actuator for a magnetic disk device causes movement of a magnetic head in the radial direction of a rotating magnetic disk. Although this magnetic head is floated above the magnetic disk by a stream of air induced by the rotation of the magnetic disk at a high speed, an excessively high velocity of the air stream causes excessive vibrations of a soft gimbal resiliently supporting the magnetic head. In the actuator of the present invention, a head arm supporting the magnetic head through the gimbal is formed with a wind-breaking projection preventing direct impingement of the air stream against the gimbal and magnetic head, thereby minimizing vibrations of the gimbal and magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 4853812
Abstract: A magnetic head supporting structure includes a gimbal member which carries a core slider and which is provided with a loading projection, and a loading beam member having one end connected with the gimbal member and contacting the loading projection to urge the core slider towards a recording medium. The surface of the portion of the loading beam member contacting the loading projection is offset from the surface of the loading beam member connected with the gimbal member, to thereby reduce the height difference between the plane and the centroid of the core slider. The reduced height difference reduces the moment which acts on the core slider during movement thereof, thus enabling the core slider to stably float without inclination with respect to the magnetic recording surface.

  • Patent number: 4723186
Abstract: An improved magnetic head support mechanism intended for causing a magnetic head to float over a magnetic recording medium, comprises a spring member for retaining the magnetic head and a loading beam member provided with flanged portions along both longitudinal sides thereof and connected to the spring member at one end thereof and coupled to a shifting mechanism at the other end thereof and capable of giving the magnetic head an urging force to act on the magnetic recording medium. The loading beam member is penetratingly formed with at least one passing hole which permits the passing therethrough of an air stream generated by the rotational movements of the magnetic recording medium when the magnetic head is floating, so that it is possible to reduce the exciting force acting on the loading beam member and to thereby obtain the stabilized floating of the magnetic head.
