  • Publication number: 20040196551
Abstract: There is provided a screen, which, with a simple configuration, is capable of effectively utilizing light projected thereon and realizing an even luminance distribution on the screen. This screen has a diffusion layer whose diffusion characteristic expressed as a luminance distribution with respect to a scattering angle of incident light incident at an angle of 0° is varied such that the peak position of the luminance distribution is shifted towards a greater value of scattering angle in the direction of the central portion of the screen the greater the distance from the central portion of the screen is. The present invention also provides an optical film suitable for use in such a screen, and a manufacturing method therefor.

  • Publication number: 20040169827
Abstract: A projection display apparatus employs a plurality of projectors 1, 2, 3 and combines images from the projectors into a large composite image on a nonplanar screen such as a concave spherical screen 10. The composite image is of high quality and high resolution and is normally visible by audience. The projectors 1, 2, 3 receive video signals through a geometric conversion unit and project and display images on the nonplanar screen 10 according to the received video signals. The geometric conversion unit transforms the field angles of images to display, according to relationships among the positions of the projectors 1, 2, 3, the positions of areas of the nonplanar screen 10 to which the projectors project images, and the position of an audience, thereby compensating distortions of images caused by the nonplanar shape of the screen 10.

  • Publication number: 20040061935
Abstract: A projection screen includes a plurality of convex portions serving as a light diffusion control portion, on the surface of a substrate. An optical thin film overlies the substrate and has convex portions having the same shape as that of the convex portions of the substrate. When external light enters the optical thin film with light in three primary color wavelength bands, the optical thin film reflects only the light in the three color wavelength bands and absorbs at least visible light of the external light. When light in the three primary color wavelength bands perpendicularly enters the optical thin film, the rays of the light have incident angles at the convex portions of the optical thin film and diffuse-reflected at angles twice the incident angles. Thus, a predetermined percentage of the light is diffused to increase the viewing angle of the screen.

  • Publication number: 20030179952
Abstract: An &agr; value in a desired shape in a desired position can be rewritten to a desired value in a desired range. &agr; value rewriting units for rewriting an &agr; value showing an opaqueness degree of an image are provided. When the desired position comes, an area setting signal is outputted in a desired shape from an area setting signal generating unit. While the area setting signal is being outputted, in the &agr; value rewriting unit, an &agr; value of inputted image data is rewritten to a desired value. The rewriting of the &agr; value can be dynamically realized independent of software. By preparing a quadrangular area calculating unit and a circular area calculating unit as an area setting signal generating unit, a quadrangular area and a circular area can be set by hardware.

  • Publication number: 20030169793
Abstract: In this semiconductor laser device, an InGaP etching block layer 11 as an etching selection layer having etching selectivity for an n-type AlInP current block layer 10, which is a non-optical-absorption layer, is formed on the n-type current block layer 10. Since this etching block layer 11 prevents the current block layer 10 on both sides of a ridge 20 from being etched during manufacture, a contact layer 12 can be prevented from entering gaps between the sides of this ridge 20 and the current block layer 10. Therefore, light oscillating in an active layer 4 is taken out from a device end surface without being absorbed in the contact layer 12. According to this semiconductor laser device, an oscillation threshold current and an operation current can be maintained low, deterioration of differential quantum efficiency can be prevented and reliability can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6546064
Abstract: A synchronization acquiring method capable of reducing the length of time required to perform in wireless communication a synchronization acquiring operation is provided when the mobile station transits from a sleep state to an active state. A synchronization acquiring apparatus capable of performing such a synchronization acquiring method is also provided. The method has the following three steps. In the first step, multiple correlation values are obtained between the input data supplied from a base station to the mobile station and multiple phases of a spreading code multiplied to the input data in the mobile station before the mobile station transits from the active state to the sleep state, multiple phases of the spreading code that correspond to the correlation values are determined, and the multiple phases are stored. In the second step, phases of the spreading code multiplied to the input data are determined using the phase when the mobile station transits from the sleep state to the active state.

  • Patent number: 6447652
Abstract: A Raman spectrum of a thin film which must be formed is measured in a thin-film forming step for forming the thin film on a member to be processed in an atmosphere, the pressure of which has been reduced. Moreover, the conditions under which the thin film is formed are controlled in accordance with a result of measurement of the Raman spectrum. At this time, the measurement of the Raman spectrum is continuously performed in an in-line manner while the thin film is being continuously formed on the elongated-sheet-like member to be processed. The measurement of the Raman spectrum is performed while the focal point of a probe of a Raman spectrometer is being controlled with respect to the member to be processed or while the output of a laser beam from the Raman spectrometer is being controlled. The thin film which must be. formed is, for example, a protective film of a magnetic recording medium. The protective film is, for example, a hard carbon film (a DLC film).

  • Patent number: 6321188
Abstract: An apparatus for language translation is arranged such that phrases having identical meanings in different languages are stored by category. Following inputs of a phrase, a user selects a language by a language selecting button, observes a translation of the input phrase and selects a response phrase by up/down, left/right scroll buttons. On the basis of this selection, the selected response phrase in the particular language is read out from a storage device, is displayed on a display, and an address number of this phrase is transmitted to a remote plate by making use of a telephone line or the like. A receiver in the remote place outputs a received phrase in a particular language from its storage device on the basis of the received phrase number and the designation of the particular language.
