  • Patent number: 7612913
Abstract: When there is a possibility where an undesirable printing result may be caused, a preview image useful for the check of the printing result is displayed, prior to an actual printing, to a user. Prior to the printing an image based on data after an image processing of an image data, it is determined whether or not there is a possibility in which an undesirable printing result may be caused based on the image data and, when it is determined that there is the possibility, a warning message is issued. When it is determined that there is a possibility in which an undesirable printing result may be caused, a printer driver simulates the image processing by the printing apparatus to prepare the data after the image processing. A display apparatus displays, prior to the printing of the image, a preview image based on the data after the image processing.

  • Patent number: 7443543
Abstract: A smoothing process is performed on image data to obtain improved image quality. Output image data is switched among image data subjected to smoothing, image data subjected to second bit conversion, and image data subjected to pseudo halftone representation process. In this manner, jaggies at edges can be smoothed even in multilevel image data subjected to image forming process such as screen processing. Smoothing for image data with degraded image quality due to, for example, lossy compression such as JPEG compression can also be achieved. Furthermore, degradation in image quality that occurs when a conventional smoothing process is applied to image data subjected to particular image processing can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7375843
Abstract: An image processing apparatus converts first image data of a first resolution N to second image data of a second resolution M, which is lower than the first resolution N, so as to output the second image data. The apparatus includes a processing unit for determining the position of a target pixel in the first image data in accordance with the ratio of the second resolution M to the first resolution N. The position of the target pixel is then used to define an area in which pixel values in the defined area are used to generate pixel values. The image processing apparatus also includes a selection signal generating unit for generating a selection signal in accordance with the target pixel value and an attribute signal representing the attribute of the target pixel. Also included in the image processing apparatus is an output unit for selecting one of the pixel values generated by the processing unit by using the selection signal so as to output the selected value as the second image data.

  • Patent number: 7310814
Abstract: There is provided a service providing system that is capable of preventing personal information on a user who has used a service from being leaked to other users without spoiling the convenience for the user, and increasing the frequency with which the user uses the service. The service providing system includes a service providing apparatus that provides a service for the user, and a password issuing device that issues a password with an expiration date that is made to correspond to identification information held by the user in response to the payment of a fee by the user. The service providing apparatus includes a memory that stores setting data used for simplifying operations relating to the service provided for the user, and a CPU. The CPU authenticates the user according to the identification information on the user, the password issued to the user, and the expiration date thereof, and gives the authenticated user a permission to perform operations on the setting data stored in the memory.

  • Patent number: 7170636
Abstract: When input N-bit multi-valued image information having density information is converted into M-bit (N?M) image information and the converted image information is output, information (S signal) indicating whether or not an image conversion process is executed for one line including a pixel of interest of the multi-valued image information is generated on the basis of the multi-valued image information. Only when the S signal indicating that the image conversion process is to be skipped successively appears for a number of times equal to or larger than “the number of lines required for the process”+1, the control is made to forcibly set the processing result of the image conversion process to be a predetermined value, and to inhibit execution of the image conversion process for one line including the pixel of interest of the multi-valued image data.

  • Patent number: 7110128
Abstract: Communication with an external image output device is established via a network interface, information concerning the characteristics of the image output devices is received and is held in a back-up RAM. A multilevel image containing gray-scale information enters from an input sensor pixel by pixel and is binarized to a binary image by a binarization circuit. At this time the connectivity of the binary image is controlled based upon the characteristic information held in the RAM and the binary image, the connectivity of which has been controlled, is transmitted to the external image output device via the network interface. As a result, the connectivity of the binary image is controlled to deal with a change in binary-image reproducibility caused by differences in engine characteristics of image output devices on a network and by changes in the environment and change with time, thereby making it possible to optimize connectivity, achieve stable reproduction and improve image quality.

  • Publication number: 20060092475
Abstract: To suppress jaggies in second image data on the basis of first image data, the second image data obtained by executing halftoning processing for the first image data, and attribute data representing an attribute of each pixel contained in the first image data, a judgment signal indicating whether to execute smoothing processing is output on the basis of the attribute data. Edge correction data is generated from the first image data by executing smoothing processing in accordance with the judgment signal. The pixel data of the second image data is compared with the pixel data of the edge correction data. The pixel data having a higher density is output. Jaggies generated by halftoning processing can be suppressed with a simple arrangement at a low cost.

  • Publication number: 20040223169
Abstract: An image expansion unit expands image data at a resolution higher than the actual resolution of an output apparatus, and a resolution conversion unit converts the expanded high-resolution data to data having the actual resolution of the output apparatus. An exposure setting unit outputs a reference pattern and a density sensor measures the density of this reference pattern. On the basis of the result of measurement, a laser-exposure correction table for an electrophotographic process is created in such a manner that the density of prescribed image data that is obtained by the resolution conversion will be the same before and after image formation. This table is set in a LUT. As a result, it is possible to prevent a situation in which the density and shape of an image are rendered non-uniform and to output a high-quality image in stable fashion.
