  • Publication number: 20080174911
Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording head is provided capable of suppressing the magnetic field attributable to the edge write phenomenon and improving resistance to an external magnetic field. The perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a magnetic layer that has a main magnetic pole on a surface facing a recording medium; a return yoke layer that is disposed on the magnetic layer with a nonmagnetic layer disposed therebetween and has a large width in the direction of the main magnetic pole; and a coil layer for applying a recording magnetic field to the magnetic layer. The return yoke layer is provided with such a shape that as seen in the plan view, the return yoke layer is exposed from the medium facing surface with a width not greater than the width in the track width direction of a protrusion region of the return yoke layer that covers the coil layer and the width of the return yoke layer gradually increases as it goes toward the starting point of the height direction.

  • Publication number: 20080019043
Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording head according to the present invention is composed of a first magnetic layer having a main magnetic pole exposed at a facing surface opposite a recording medium, a second magnetic layer adjacent to the first magnetic layer with an intermediary non-magnetic layer disposed therebetween, and a coil layer for applying a recording magnetic field to the first magnetic layer. Since the second magnetic layer has a shape including a substantially arched portion in its cross section along a height direction, it becomes possible to keep an Edge Write magnetic field in a low level and improve external magnetic field resistance.

  • Publication number: 20070236834
Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a nonmagnetic insulating layer and a main magnetic pole layer disposed on the nonmagnetic insulating layer. The main magnetic pole layer includes a pole straight part exposed in an opposing surface opposite a recording medium and a flared part that extends from the pole straight part in a height direction. • Publication number: 20070195456
Abstract: Particularly, there is provided a perpendicular magnetic recording head capable of suppressing PTP and obtaining a stabilized recording ability by improving the shape of the opposed surface of a return yoke layer and a method of manufacturing the same. The shape of the return yoke layer on the opposed surface includes a downside formed linearly parallel to a track width direction (X direction shown in the drawing), a center portion where a protrusion portion having a maximum width T1 larger than a track width Tw by protruding upwardly is formed in a position opposed to a main magnetic pole layer in a film thickness direction (Z direction shown in the drawing), and opposed end portions, having a film thickness smaller than the center portion, that extend on the opposite sides in the track width direction of the center portion. As a result, it is possible to properly obtain both effects such as the improvement of the recording ability and the suppressing of PTP generation.

  • Publication number: 20070195453
Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head is provided. The thin-film magnetic head includes a return-yoke layer formed on an opposed surface such that a maximum length of the return-yoke layer is shorter than a longer length of the length of the upper shield layer and the lower shield layer. The length sets in the range of 0 to 2 ?m, and more preferably 2 ?m. Accordingly, magnitudes of leakage magnetic fields leaked from each front end surface of return-yoke layer, the upper shield layer, and the lower shield layer toward the record medium are balanced and reduced. An advantage of the invention is to provide a thin-film magnetic head so as to prevent a record data recorded in a record medium from being erased.

  • Publication number: 20070041127
Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a main pole layer and a return path layer that are exposed from a medium-facing surface of the recording head facing a recording medium and that face each other with a predetermined gap therebetween at the medium-facing surface. A coil layer applies a recording magnetic field to the main pole layer and the return path layer. The return path layer includes a gap adjusting layer and a main layer stacked in that order from a side facing the main pole layer. The gap adjusting layer is positioned so as to face the main pole layer and the recording medium, and is made of a magnetic material having a resistivity lower than resistivities of the main layer and the main pole layer.

  • Publication number: 20060164756
Abstract: An auxiliary magnetic section has a multilayer structure consisting of auxiliary magnetic layers and a non-magnetic layer and a first auxiliary magnetic layer is bonded to a main magnetic pole layer. This allows the auxiliary magnetic layers to have large induced magnetic anisotropy due to antiferromagnetic coupling in a track width direction. Since the first auxiliary magnetic layer is ferromagnetically coupled with the main magnetic pole layer, the magnetization of the main magnetic pole layer can be more properly directed in the track width direction as compared to known main magnetic pole layers and has low remanence. This leads to an increase in magnetic recording efficiency.

A rotation of the rotational output shaft is converted to rotational movement of the joint shaft by way of a pair of bevel gears, and the connecting member fixed to the joint shaft turns right and left at an angle of 90° or more about the joint shaft. The finger unit suitable for use in a robot hand that moves at high speed and with precision can be realized.

  • Publication number: 20060126223
Abstract: A length in a height direction from each end of a front portion of a return-pass layer (first magnetic layer) may be shorter than a length in the height direction from a midpoint of the front portion. As a result, a recording magnetic field may not be concentrated on and may not return to the ends of the front portion, and the intensity of the magnetic field generated from the ends toward the recording medium may be weakened, whereby it may be possible to appropriately suppress the erasing phenomenon of a recorded signal.

  • Publication number: 20060098340
Abstract: In the perpendicular magnetic recording head according to the invention, the inclined surface, which is inclined toward the trailing side at the tilt angle ?1 with respect to the virtual vertical line extending from the top surface of the recording medium, is formed in the trailing-side cross section of the main magnetic pole in such a manner that it extends from the front-end surface in a direction where it is spaced apart from the recording medium. If the inclined surface is formed in the main magnetic pole as described above, the absolute value of the magnetic field gradient ?1 of the recording magnetic field can be increased and a magnetization inversion width can be decreased. It is thus possible to reduce magnetization inversion noise.

  • Publication number: 20050243466
Abstract: A magnetic head and a manufacturing method thereof which can suppress side fringing and permeation of a recording magnetic field in the first direction while maintaining the intensity of a recording magnetic field. By making a length of a trailing upper surface of a front portion in a height direction longer than a length of a leading lower surface of the front portion in the height direction, a generated magnetic field of the trailing upper surface can be comparatively weakened, to suppress side fringing and magnetic field permeation of a recording magnetic field. The recording magnetic field can be kept large enough by shortening the length of the leading lower surface in the height direction to intensify a generated magnetic field generated from the leading side.

  • Publication number: 20050219764
Abstract: A concave portion is formed on the end surface of a main magnet pole layer on the trailing side. A convex portion is formed on the end surface of a return yoke layer on the leading side, which opposes the concave portion formed on the end surface of the main magnet pole layer on the trailing side, and the distance (gap length) between the main magnet pole layer and the return yoke layer in the direction of the film thickness is constant. Consequently, the magnetic field generating from the main magnet pole layer toward the recording medium is appropriately prevented from isotropically spreading in the trailing direction, and the width of magnetization reversal between the recording patterns, which are magnetized reversely from each other, can be reduced over the entire area.
