    Abstract: A time series signal recognition capable of obtaining a high recognition rate even for the speech data with low S/N ratio in noisy environments. The time series signals are recognized by extracting a plurality of candidate feature vectors characterizing an individual time series signal, without fixing a boundary for the individual time series signal. Similarity values are calculated for each of the plurality of candidate feature vectors and the reference patterns stored in the recognition dictionary, from which one reference pattern for which the similarity value is greater than a prescribed threshold value is selected as a recognition result. New reference patterns to be stored in the recognition dictionary are learned by acquiring actual background noise of the apparatus, and mixing prescribed noiseless signal patterns with the acquired background noise to form signal patterns for learning.

    Abstract: A magneto-optical disk drive system, utilizing a magnetic field modulation recording method, has a disk cartridge for housing a magneto-optical disk therein and insertable into a system housing and a magnetic head in the system housing for writing information on the magneto-optical disk held in the disk cartridge. The disk cartridge is guided by cam grooves and cam pins for movement between a first unloading position and a first loading position when inserted in the system housing. The magnetic head is guided by cam grooves and cam pins for movement between a second unloading position remote from the disk cartridge and a second loading position close to the disk cartridge. The magnetic head is normally urged to move from the second loading position toward the second unloading position under the bias of a tension spring. A lock arm is attracted by an electromagnet to lock the magnetic head in the second loading position when the main power supply of the magneto-optical disk drive system is turned on.

    Abstract: A motor has a stator and a rotor, the stator having cores and drive coils which generate magnetic fields for rotating the rotor. The stator also has a yoke surrounding the rotor and the rotor is positioned such that it is closer to one part of the outer periphery of the yoke than another part of the outer periphery of the yoke. Such a motor is particularly suitable for use in a disk drive unit as a spindle motor for rotating the disk. Then an actuator for moving a head may be located adjacent the part of the outer periphery of the yoke which is closest to the rotor. This permits the head to approach closely the axis of rotation of the disk without the spindle motor interferring with the movement of the head. The continuous yoke prevents magnetic flux leakage from the spindle motor interferring with the actuator. The actuator may itself have a yoke integral with the yoke of the spindle motor, and/or other components in common.
