    Abstract: The present invention relates to advanced flame/fire retardant compositions for fabric, upholstery, carpet, barrier, automotive, building construction, communication, and consumer electronics applications. The flame retardant composition comprises: about 5-25 wt. % hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer, about 6-40 wt. % polyolefin, about 50-80 wt. % inorganic flame retardant, about 0-5 wt. % coating, about 0-5 wt. % functionalized styrenic block copolymer, about 0-7 wt. % agri-derived heat resistant liquid, about 0.05-1.0 wt. % antioxidant, and about 0-7 wt. % optional additives such as metal deactivator, colorant, filler, and/or lubricants, wherein said composition totals 100 wt. %. An article made from the flame retardant composition, such as film, fiber, cable, and wire insulation meets various European and U.S. standards. The flame retardant compositions possess a good balance of tensile strength, elongation, flame resistance, and processability that has previously been unobtainable.

    Abstract: First and second composite members each containing first discontinuous fibers of fiber length La, are placed such that end surfaces thereof face each other at an interval of first length L1. Ends of the first and second composite members are melted over a second length L2 from the end surfaces. A connecting member containing second discontinuous fibers of fiber length Lb, is melted and placed to bridge a space between the ends, to form a stack. The stack is pressed, whereby the melted connecting member and the melted end portions flow into the space between the end surfaces to form a mixture portion. The mixture portion is cooled and solidified to produce a fiber-reinforced resin bonded body. The first length L1 is equal to or more than ½ of the fiber length Lb, and the second length L2 is equal to or more than the fiber length La.

    Abstract: The invention relates to unique applications for the novel high melt flow, low viscosity, selectively hydrogenated styrene-butadiene-styrene (hSBS) or selectively hydrogenated controlled distribution styrene-butadiene/styrene-styrene (hSBSS) block copolymers, wherein the melt flow rate of said block copolymer is at least 100 g/10 min. at 230° C. under 2.16 kg mass according to ASTM D1238. These block copolymers are novel and have the highest melt flow rate of any styrenic block copolymer also possessing high strength and elasticity. It has applications that prior to the present invention were not normally possible due to the normal low melt flow rate of styrenic block copolymers. The present invention also encompasses various fields of use such as a fiberglass hSBS or hSBSS reinforced mat, low viscosity hSBS or hSBSS coatings for industrial uses, hot melt adhesives prepared from hSBS or hSBSS blended with polyalpha-olefins, and elastic film, fiber, and nonwoven constructions using hSBS or hSBSS.
