  • Patent number: 5859834
Abstract: An optical disc includes a disc base plate of a light-transmitting synthetic material having a recess for mounting a magnetic plate, and a holding part, integral with the disc base plate, for loosely holding the magnetic plate mounted in the recess with respect to the disc base plate. It is possible with the present optical disc to prevent distortion of the disc base plate otherwise caused by the difference in thermal expansion coefficients of the two components to inhibit double refraction of the disc base plate otherwise caused by such distortion to maintain good recording/reproducing characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5557589
Abstract: A disc type detection arm contacts a disc type opening formed in a disc cartridge when the disc cartridge is loaded into a recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The disc type detection arm determines the type of disc which has been loaded by the depth of the disc type opening, and controls the positioning of the magnetic head in response thereto. The magnetic head is spaced-apart from the disc when a read-only type disc is loaded, and positioned close to the disc when a read/write disc is loaded.

  • Patent number: 5363362
Abstract: There is provided a disc recording apparatus for recording digital data by an optical unit in such a manner that time compressed digital data are arranged into a plurality of clusters at an interval of a predetermined number of sectors, a cluster-linking sector having a length longer than an interleaving length is provided at each linking part of each cluster, and the digital data are subsequently interleaved and recorded on a disc-shaped recording medium so that interleaving at the time of data recording on the cluster-by-cluster basis is within the range of the cluster-linking sector.

  • Patent number: 5341357
Abstract: A recording apparatus for an optical disc 101 having ejection inhibiting levers 18, 19 moved at the time of starting the recording mode. These ejection inhibiting levers 18, 19 are retained in the moved position by a locking lever 23 during the recording mode for inhibiting thrusting of an ejection button 17 which may be operated for taking out the optical disc 101. After the end of recording of table-of-contents data on the optical disc 101 following recording of the information signals on the disc 101, the locking lever 23 releases the retention of the ejection inhibiting levers 18, 19 for enabling thrusting of the ejection button 17.

  • Patent number: 5329504
Abstract: A disc recording apparatus includes a base member, a cartridge holder, a magnetic head and a supporting arm. The base member has a spindle motor to rotationally drive a magneto-optical disc accommodated in a disc cartridge and an optical pickup unit for radiating at least one of light beam on the magneto-optical disc. The cartridge holder holds the disc cartridge. The cartridge holder rotatable is mounted on the base member and moved between a loading position in which the magneto-optical disc is loaded on a disc table mounted on the spindle motor and an unloading position in which the magneto-optical disc is taken out the disc table. The magnetic head generates vertical magnetic field and applies the vertical magnetic field to the magneto-optical disc. The supporting arm supports the magnetic head and is rotatable mounted on the cartridge holder to move corresponding to the movement of the cartridge holder.

  • Patent number: 5226024
Abstract: A disk recording and/or reproducing apparatus comprises external magnetic field generating means for applying an external magnetic field to a given area, of a rotating disk on which information signals are recorded; of a rotating disk; means for moving the external magnetic field generating means toward and away from the disk in response to commencing an operation of recording of the informational signals on the disk; and means for loading the disk on such a position where the informational signal can be recorded. The moving means moves the external magnetic field generating means toward the disk only when the loading operation of the disk by the loading means is completed. Accordingly, contact of the magnetic head with the disk while the disk is not rotated is prevented.
