  • Patent number: 5585937
Abstract: A reading unit for an image reading device includes a lens tube for forming an image of an object and a line sensor for converting the formed image into an electrical signal. A reducing/magnifying mechanism is included for changing the magnification of the image detected by the line sensor. The lens tube is movable such that the optical path length between the lens tube and the line sensor is adjustable to thereby vary magnification of the image. Further, in response to the movement of the lens tube, a movable mirror is adjusted. The mirror is set in a first predetermined position and directs reflected light from the object to the lens tube to shorten the optical path length between the object and the lens tube and thus relatively increase magnification, in response to the lens tube being in a predetermined normal position with a relatively long optical path length between the lens tube and the line sensor.

  • Patent number: 5481278
Abstract: An information processing apparatus obtains a distance that an input pen is moved in terms of the number of dots covered on a display screen, and from that number, judges whether a pen stroke is a gesture entry or a pointing entry. When the input pen is moved over more than a predetermined number of dots, e.g., eight dots, gesture recognition processing is performed. If the input pen is moved less than that number of dots, a pointing instruction is recognized, and pointing processing is performed. If a gesture is recognized, a recognized gesture editing command and a feature point of the gesture command are stored in RAM. Since an input by the input pen is judged a gesture entry or a pointing entry according to the number of dots over which the input pen is moved, a switch is not required to change data/instruction entry modes which reduces cost and improves handling.

  • Patent number: 5474394
Abstract: A printing apparatus employs a nearly linear conveying path P2 for printing paper P from a position confronting the platen roller 6 and thermal head 7 for composing the printing unit 3 to the paper discharge unit 2. The capstan roller 4, pinch roller 5, and discharge rollers 10, 10 are disposed opposedly to the conveying path P2, and at an intermediate position of the conveying path P2 intersects the conveying path P1 from the paper supply unit 1 to the printing unit 3. A paper supply port is disposed at the bottom of the paper cassette forming the paper supply unit 1, so that the conveying path P1 from the paper supply port to the printing unit 3 is shortened, and accordingly the paper conveying path is shortened. The printer construction simplified and downsized, while the precision of positioning of the printing paper and positioning of the printing head is enhanced, so that the printing quality may be improved.

  • Patent number: 5421660
Abstract: An output mechanism printer which prints characters and images on recording paper includes an input path along which a sheet of paper is conveyed towards the printing unit, a cylindrical platen roller having a longitudinal axis of rotation which is orthogonal to the input direction, and an output device which moves the sheet in the same direction as the input direction, and then automatically moves the paper directly parallel to the longitudinal axis of the platen until it is outside the printer.

  • Patent number: 5360789
Abstract: A therapeutic agent for skin or corneal diseases containing CPB-I (calphobindin-I) or recombinant CPB-I as the active ingredient. The CPB-I or recombinant CPB-I have excellent activities in promoting regeneration of granulation tissue, migration of corneal endothelial and epithelial cells, etc., and lowering PKC activity. Because the agent has an action mechanism different from that of the conventional agent, it can be used together with the conventional agent to enhance the therapeutic effect, thus being remarkably useful for treating all sorts of the skin and corneal diseases, in particular, wound and psoriasis.
