  • Patent number: 5815335
Abstract: In a recording and/or reproducing apparatus, a memory is provided within a mechanism portion which is formed separately from a control portion, but contained in one housing. The memory stores a negative adjusting data corresponding to the mechanism portion which is necessary to operate the mechanism portion in the specified condition, so that even if one of the mechanism portion or control portion is replaced separately, the storing operation of new adjusting data can be omitted. Thereby, such a replacement operation can be simplified.

  • Patent number: 5805347
Abstract: Lens systems are disclosed each of which providing a variable magnification telecentric optical system in which lateral magnification can be varied while maintaining constant image position and telecentricity. The lens system comprises, from the object side, first, second, and third lens groups disposed on an optical axis. The first and third lens groups each have positive refractive power. The second lens group is afocal. While varying the lateral magnification, the object and image positions remain fixed and telecentricity of the lens system (on both the object and image sides) is maintained. Lateral magnification is varied by axially moving lenses in one or more of the first, second, and third lens groups.

  • Patent number: 5804879
Abstract: An aluminum interconnection of the invention contains scandium as an impurity, so that the hardness of the interconnection in improved. Moreover, after a thin Al-Sc alloy film is formed, an annealing is performed 80 as to make the crystal grain larger than the width of the interconnection. The resulting Al interconnection has a high resistance against a stressmigration or electromigration, when a current stress in applied at a practical temperature in an LSI. This greatly contributes to the fabrication of a semiconductor device having a fine structure.

  • Patent number: 5617026
Abstract: A gradient magnetic field generation apparatus for generating a gradient magnetic field in a space in which an inspection object is placed includes at least one gradient magnetic field coil and a retaining member of the coil which undergoes deformation vibration by an electromagnetic force generated when a current is caused to flow through the coil. This apparatus generates noise and vibration whenever a pulse current is applied to the coil, because an electromagnetic force develops in the coil due to the pulse current and the coil as well as the retaining member of the coil undergo deformation and vibration. Therefore, a force which inhibits this deformation and vibration is applied to the retaining member so as to prevent deformation and vibration of the coil and the retaining member and to keep their shapes constant.

  • Patent number: 5586455
Abstract: An automatic washing machine includes a clutch float having external gear teeth. The clutch float is located around a shaft which is driven by an electric motor and to which an agitator is secured. The clutch float couples the shaft to an inner rotatable tub when its external gear teeth are engaged with internal gear teeth at the inner tub side in a dehydration step. The clutch float moves upwardly in subjection to buoyancy when water is supplied into the inner tub in a wash step. The external gear teeth of the clutch float are disengaged from the internal gear teeth so that the shaft is decoupled from the inner tub. The washing machine further includes a rotation restricting float which moves upwardly in subjection to the buoyancy in the wash step to couple the inner tub to an outer stationary tub and which decouples the inner tub from the outer tub in the dehydration step. A device delivers a position signal indicative of the position of the clutch float which is vertically movable.

  • Patent number: 5544653
Abstract: A radio frequency pulse to excite nuclei constituting an object to be imaged, a slice selecting gradient magnetic field pulse applied when the radio frequency magnetic field pulse is applied, a phase encoding gradient magnetic pulse, a frequency encoding gradient magnetic field pulse are applied to the object to be imaged placed in a static magnetic field. Then the generated nuclear magnetic resonance signals are detected many times to form an image of the internal structure of the object to be imaged using the detected signals. In this occasion, the amplitude of the slice selecting gradient magnetic field pulse or the width of the radio frequency pulse is changed corresponding to the amount of phase encoding given by the phase encoding gradient magnetic field pulse. In multi-slice imaging for detecting the signals from a plurality of slices spatially laminated, part of the signals are used in common between the slices adjacent to each other when two-dimensional images of those slices are reconstructed.

  • Patent number: 5491386
Abstract: A lighting device for a high-pressure discharge lamp includes an inverter circuit for converting a DC voltage into an AC voltage using a pair of switching elements. The switching elements have a switching frequency for starting the high-pressure discharge lamp that is higher than a resonance frequency of a series resonance circuit connected in parallel with the discharge lamp. However, in a lighted state of the discharge lamp, the switching frequency is lower than the resonance frequency of the resonance circuit and is within a frequency range where acoustic resonance does not occur. The lighted state of the high-pressure discharge lamp is maintained by a voltage across a capacitor in the series resonance circuit.

  • Patent number: 5469027
Abstract: A device for operating a high pressure gas discharge lamp with an electronic ballast having a lamp power factor of substantially 1.0. The device utilizes a lamp equi-luminescence performance curve X which is obtained for the lamp to give a lamp voltage and a lamp wattage that can vary along the curve X while keeping an arc luminescence of an arc developing between electrodes of the lamp at substantially constant level. The arc luminescence is defined as a maximum luminescence of the arc having varying luminescence along the length of the arc. The constant level determined to be the luminescence that the lamp gives at the rated lamp voltage. The curve X is analyzed to determine a specific lamp voltage Va at which curve X gives a maximum lamp wattage Wa. The lamp is operated in accordance with a first load characteristic for controlling to increase the lamp wattage substantially along the lamp performance curve X until the lamp voltage increases to the specific lamp voltage Va.

  • Patent number: 5327012
Abstract: A semiconductor device having a double-layer interconnection with contact portions between first and second metal films, each having a multi-layered structure, covered with at least a silicon nitride film is provided wherein an electromigration characteristic at the contact portions is improved. The improvement is achieved by defining a value obtained by multiplying a thickness of the silicon nitride film by a stress of the nitride film formed at the contact portions is not larger than 2/5 of a value obtained by multiplying a thickness of the silicon nitride film by a stress of the nitride film formed at non-contact portions. By this, the stress exerted on the second metal film is reduced to improve the electromigration life at the contact portions by about one order of magnitude. The first and second metal films, respectively, have a multi-layered structure including a sub-layer made of Al or Al alloys.
