  • Patent number: 6167331
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a group of vehicles running on a road under vehicle-to-vehicle control where a joining group of vehicles (10) approaching from a branch road (7) is controlled by a system employing a moving target control method applied to only the head vehicle (1) in the joining group (10). Vehicle joining is achieved when a head moving target (21) in a continuous null (not-allocated) group (40) of moving targets on the main road that has an overall length larger than that of the joining vehicle group approaching from the branch road (7) and the head moving target of the null group (40) is synchronized with the head vehicle of the joining group (10).

  • Patent number: 6138064
Abstract: A running section on a main line 5 and a branching lane 7, leading to platforms 6, including a branching and merging is represented as a moving target control section 11. The running section of the main lane not including the branching and merging sections is represented as a vehicle-to-vehicle distance control section 12. When a vehicle enters the moving target control section 11, the vehicle is detected by a vehicle detector 13 and the position information, course information, etc., are output to an operation control computer. Based on the detected information the operation control computer temporarily shifts the generation interval of the moving target to be matched to an entry of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5754505
Abstract: An optical disc system, an optical disc employed in such system, and an optical disc apparatus employed for driving the optical disc system, are disclosed. The optical disc includes plural wobbled grooves gr which include address information data. The optical disc is pre-formatted so that the wobbled grooves are formed so that the distance between neighboring grooves gr corresponds to the number of channels in an HDTV signal. For instance, two channels, CH1 and CH2, are recorded on recording lands are defined between the neighboring wobbled grooves formed at a distance of 3.2 .mu.m. Signal dots Sd.sub.1, Sd.sub.2 for the two HDTV signal channels CH1 and CH2 are recorded on either sides of each wobbled groove gr. The HDTV signals may be recorded on the real time basis and for an extended period of time.

  • Patent number: 5712161
Abstract: Animal cells are cultured while embedded in a collagen gel. The gel containing cells is formed by dispersing animal cells in a collagen solution, placing a drop (or drops) of the cell-containing collagen solution on a support surface and allowing the drop to gel to fix on the surface as a globular collagen gel having a convex surface. The cells are cultured by contacting the gel with a culture medium that may be serum-free or contain dextran sulfate. The drop preferably contains about 3 to about 300 microliters of the collagen solution and is about 2 mm or less in height. The cells may be precultured on a support surface having a collagen layer, released from the collagen layer by treatment with collagenase and dispersed in the collagen solution. The cells can be evaluated after culturing by staining such as with neutral red, or with fluorescein diacetate and irradiating, or by photographing cells in the collagen gel.

  • Patent number: 5571254
Abstract: A speed variable moving sidewalk for conveying passengers includes an endless circulating path having inverting sections, a high-speed section and speed variable sections, and a large number of treadboards moving along the circulating path. Each treadboard can move independently as being guided by guide rails and has hooks on its underside which engage shafts of a driving chain for inverting section. The treadboard further has hooks on its underside which engage shafts of a rack chain in order to be driven in the high-speed section and a roller for transversely sliding relative to the neighboring treadboard. A handrail mechanism for the speed variable moving sidewalk includes: with the total length of the moving sidewalk being divided into plural portions, a multiple-number of independent moving handrail portions for allowing passengers to hold thereon, being arranged for the respective portions of the sidewalk while all of the moving handrail portions are arranged without overlapping with one another.

  • Patent number: 5218313
Abstract: To output desired high purity signals, a frequency synthesizer was made to synthesize reference signals from a first and second signal generators in the same frequency band as a desired frequency band. Thereby, the resolution of the frequency synthesizer becomes twice the step .DELTA.F. Also, the frequency synthesizer can interpolate the step size of the first signal generator with half the number of steps. While, heretofore, the 100 MHz step size was interpolated with Fq=0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 MHz, Fq=0, 20, 40 MHz interpolation is made possible. This permits the synthesis of 580 MHz to 1280 MHz. In this case, however, the minimum difference between the sum and difference frequencies from the first and second signal generators is 40 MHz and the lowest frequency is 20 MHz. Thus, depending on mixer isolation, the spurious measures become difficult.
