Abstract: There is provided a data transmission device including a acquisition unit which acquires identification information indicating whether or not a data reception device operating by a first digital interface is compatible with a second digital interface other than the first digital interface, which is stored in a storing unit of the data reception device, via the first digital interface of the data reception device and the second digital interface of the data transmission device operating by the second digital interface, and a distinction unit which distinguishes whether or not the data reception device is compatible with the second digital interface, based on the identification information acquired by the acquisition unit.

Abstract: A converting processing block (4B/5B CONVERTER & ARB. SIGNAL CONVERTER) functions as a 4 bit/5 bit converting unit for performing 4 bit/5 bit conversion of data and as an arbitration signal converting unit for allocating 5-bit symbols other than 5-bit symbols allocated to data to arbitration signals to enable the sending/reception of the arbitration signals and packet data as 5-bit code data. There are also provided scrambling blocks (SCRAMBLE 1, SCRAMBLE 2) 4A, 4B and descramble blocks (DESCRAMBLE 1, DESCRAMBLE 2) 5A, 5B between the 4 bit/5 bit converting unit and the arbitration signal converting unit on one hand and the input/output port on the other hand to inhibit unneeded radiations in a transmission channel.

The picture signal encoding apparatus includes: first compression coding device for converting and compression-coding basic picture signals having a sampling frequency ratio of a luminance signal and two color-difference signals of 4:2:2 to have a sampling frequency ratio of the luminance signal and the two color-difference signals of 4:1:1 or 4:2:0 so as to generate first compressed data; encoding residual extracting device for extracting an encoding residual between the basic picture signals and the compressed data; and second compression coding device for compression-coding the extracted encoding residual so as to generate second compressed data.
