  • Publication number: 20090262500
Abstract: There are provided a cooling device and a heat sink that can effectively radiate heat generated by a heat source while reducing the volume of discharged gas to avoid noise, and an electronic apparatus in which the cooling device and the heat sink are mounted. A heat sink 3 includes cutouts 24a and 24b through which air serving as gas can be taken in from the outside and which are provided on a side where air discharged from first and second nozzles 6 and 7 serving as openings of a jet generating mechanism 2 is received. Therefore, the pressure near the cutouts is decreased by air flow discharged from the first and second nozzles 6 and 7, and outside air is taken in through the cutouts 24a and 24b. Consequently, more gas than gas discharged from the first and second nozzles 6 and 7 is discharged from an outlet of the heat sink. This can minimize the volume of jetted gas to avoid noise, and effectively radiate heat generated by a heat source.

  • Patent number: 6066380
Abstract: A molded thermoplastic resin disc substrate specially adapted for use with floating head type recording/reproduction apparatus is provided. The molded disc substrate has surface smoothness characteristics which are the same or better than are provided with mirror polished aluminum discs. The molded disc substrates include a floating head scanning surface wherein the maximum projection height or maximum surface irregularity is less than about 50 nm to reduce or eliminate damage to either the disc or floating head caused by unwanted collisions between them. In a preferred embodiment, the molded disc substrates are molded from a thermoplastic resin composition containing 10000 particles/gram or less of particles having a particle diameter of 0.5 .mu.m or more. In a preferred embodiment, control of particle size and content is achieved by subjecting the resin molding composition to a sequence of filtering steps using filters of decreasing mesh size.

  • Patent number: 5875083
Abstract: A magnetic disc has a magnetic recording area on or from which the information may be recorded or reproduced by a recording head loaded on a slider. The magnetic recording area has a data area including a recording track as a crest and a guard band as a valley, and a servo area having servo marks as crests and valleys. A CSS area for contact-start-stop (CSS) with the slider is made up of CSS data areas radially consecutive to the data areas and CSS servo areas radially consecutive to the servo areas. The entire surfaces of the CSS servo areas may be planarized at the same height level as the recording tracks. The CSS servo areas are provided with the same pattern of crests and valleys similar to that of the data areas. This suppresses generation of powder debris during CSS while optimizing the amount of float of the slider and the floating posture in the CSS area.

  • Patent number: 5585989
Abstract: Using a thermoplastic norbornene type plastic as a material for the magnetic disc substrate, a magnetic disc substrate having a small deformation and a high modulus of elasticity is prepared. By optimizing the thickness of the substrate, the resonance frequency of the magnetic disc can be elevated to a level higher than the servo band. As a result, a magnetic disc substrate can form a servo mark having a high positional precision, and can carry out tracking with high precision.
