  • Publication number: 20020079178
Abstract: A power transfer device including a main clutch, a cam mechanism and an electromagnetic pilot clutch mechanism coaxially assembled within a cylindrical space between an external cylindrical rotary member and an internal rotary member, wherein an electromagnetic coil of the pilot clutch mechanism is applied with an electric current to produce pilot torque, the cam mechanism is applied with the pilot torque to produce thrust force in an axial direction, and the main clutch is engaged by the thrust force applied from the cam mechanism to effect drive connection between the rotary members. In the power transfer device, residual thrust force of the cam mechanism is electrically or mechanically decreased at an instance when differential rotation of the rotary members is reversed.

  • Publication number: 20020033311
Abstract: A driving force transmission device transmits driving force between an outer case made of magnetic substance and inner shaft. A main clutch mechanism, an electromagnetic type pilot clutch mechanism and cam mechanism are arranged between the outer case and inner shaft. The main clutch mechanism transmits driving force between the outer case and inner shaft. The pilot clutch mechanism controls operation of the main clutch mechanism and comprises an electromagnet, an armature and a friction clutch. The cam mechanism amplifies output of the pilot clutch mechanism and transmits amplified output to the main clutch mechanism. The driving force transmission device further comprises a first regulation member and/or a second regulating member. The first regulating member adjusts a clearance between the cam mechanism and the armature to be more than a predetermined distance. The second regulating member adjusts an axial position of the friction clutch.

  • Patent number: 6206159
Abstract: A driving torque transmission control apparatus that is rotatably supported onto a vehicle body through a support bearing supported by a bearing holding device including an absorber and a bearing holding member, and that is serially disposed between driving force transmission axles. The apparatus further includes a first rotating member and a second rotating member rotatably connected around a common axis relatively with each other, to electro-magnetically control a driving torque transmitted from one of driving force transmission axles to the other thereof. A frictional engage section is provided between the first and second rotating members, to transmit from one of the first and second rotating members to the other thereof. Between the first and second rotating members, there is provided an annular electro-magnet to control a transmission torque of the frictional engage section.

  • Patent number: 5899306
Abstract: A drive force transmission apparatus includes a housing connected to one of two shafts that are rotatable relative to each other, a rotary shaft rotatably supported by the housing and connected to the other shaft, and a multiple disc clutch composed of a plurality of outer plates engaged with the housing in the rotational direction and a plurality of inner plates engaged with the rotary shaft in the rotational direction. The multiple disc clutch transmits rotational torque between the housing and the rotary shaft through frictional engagement between the outer plates and the inner plates. The apparatus also includes a pressure generation mechanism for generating a pressure corresponding to a rotational-speed difference between the housing and the rotary shaft and for applying the generated force to the multiple disc clutch via a piston.

  • Patent number: 5454457
Abstract: A torque coupling device for use as, for example, a so-called center differential provided between front and rear road wheel axles of a four-wheeled vehicle comprises a cup-shape front housing, a rear housing closing an open end of the front housing, a rotational shaft co-axially rotatably supported by the front and rear housings therewithin, and a clutch disc assembly interposed within the front housing between an axial inner end of the front housing and an axial inner end of the rear housing. The initial clearance in axial direction between the clutch assembly and the inner ends of the front and rear housings is tuned so that when the relative rotation between the housings and said rotational shaft causes a certain temperature difference between the housing and the clutch assembly, the difference in thermal expansion between the front housing and the clutch assembly brings clutch discs of the clutch assembly into friction contact to transmit a rotational torque between the housings and the rotational shaft.

Abstract: A torque transmission device coaxially arranged between a pair of rotary shafts transmits rotational torque in response to relative rotation therebetween. This device includes an outer cylindrical housing coupled to one of the rotary shafts for rotation therewith, wherein the outer cylindrical housing receives an inner sleeve shaft coupled to the other of the rotary shafts for rotation therewith, and multiple friction disc clutch which transmits rotational torque between the inner sleeve shaft and the outer cylindrical housing. In the torque transmission device, there are also an actuation piston making the multiple friction disc clutch be in engagement and a pressure generating mechanism generating a pressure according to the relative rotation between the outer cylindrical housing and the inner sleeve shaft to make the actuation piston move toward the clutch.
