  • Patent number: 5716762
Abstract: This invention provides a method of producing a diffraction grating of a spectroscope by applying light to a thin film of glass having characteristics such that a density change occurs with the change of a glass structure upon irradiation of light and volume expansion occurs irreversibly. The method comprises applying light to a diffraction grating formation of a surface of the thin film by applying light through a phase mask or applying interference light, and causing the light irradiation portion of glass to expand and to thereby form the diffraction grating. Light to be applied is generally laser beams of ultraviolet rays, such as an excimer laser, a Nd-YAG laser or UV higher harmonics of a dye laser. A laser beam of a visible light region can be used, too. Preferably, a silica single crystal plate is used for the substrate of the thin film, and sputter vacuum deposition is used for forming the thin film. The glass composition whose volume expands upon irradiation of light is GeO.sub.2 --SiO.sub.

  • Patent number: 4995745
Abstract: A printer includes improved paper feeding mechanism. A manual paper guide plate below an automatic paper feeding device can guide a thick piece of paper into a printing position on the platen without bending it hard around the platen. A pin tractor below the manual paper guide plate can feed a continuous web substantially straight into the printing position. A print head below the platen prints out on the lower surface of printing paper, whereby the printed individual cut sheets of paper being piled up one after another with the printed surface facing downward in a proper page order. A paper tray for holding the printed paper can alternatively change its position to reverse the discharge direction of the printed continuous web. The printed and reversed paper can be stacked on the upper surface of the manual paper guide plate.

  • Patent number: 4983231
Abstract: There is provided a surface-treated magnetic powder that can form a resin-bonded permanent magnet with large magnetic force and a high maximum energy product, which magnetic properties do not decrease even after the long periods of time. The surface-treated magnetic powder is obtained by treating a magnetic powder made of an alloy that comprises a rare earth metal and iron with a treatment agent containing a alkali-modified silica particles as a major component, wherein the alkali-modified silica particles are obtained by reacting silica particles with a mean particle diameter of from 0.005 to 0.1 .mu.m with an alkali to modify only the surface portion of the silica particles by the alkali.

  • Patent number: 4966358
Abstract: A feeding apparatus for a printer wherein an uppermost sheet of a sheet stack placed on a support member is delivered by a feed roll in contact with the uppermost sheet, through a clearance formed between a presser member which engages the upper surface of the uppermost sheet, and an elastic member which is disposed adjacent to the presser member for abutting contact with the edges of the sheet stack. The apparatus includes a support mechanism for supporting the presser and elastic members such that the two members are movable toward and away from each other, and a biasing spring for biasing the two members toward each other. The relative position of the presser and elastic members and the amount of the clearance therebetween during a normal sheet feeding operation are determined by a stopper device.

  • Patent number: 4865348
Abstract: An actively controlled suspension system employs a shut-off valve which is responsive to a source pressure dropping below a predetermined level to shut-off communication between a pressure return line for returning the fluid pressure to the pressure source from a hydraulic cylinder. The shut-off valve is disposed in a drain line connecting a drain port of a spool valve assembly and the pressure source. By the presence of the shut-off valve, substantial pressure difference between the hydraulic cylinder side and pressure source side of the spool valve is not created. Therefore, no leakage through the spool valve occurs and whereby the pressure in the hydraulic cylinder can be maintained even when the source pressure becomes substantially low or zero.

  • Patent number: 4650310
Abstract: A toner density detecting device is provided with a coil buried in a housing and a cover member provided on one end of the coil to prevent the developing agent from touching the coil. The cover member has a front end portion provided near the surface of the housing and extending along the developing agent flowing direction and an apex portion at the back of the front end portion with respect to the direction. The apex portion projects deeper into the developing agent than the front end portion. An edge connecting the front end portion and the apex portion extends in the direction to cross the central axis of the coil. A pair of faces extending in the direction on either side of the edge are gradually declined from the edge toward the surface of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4561524
Abstract: A damping force regulation device for a telescopic shock absorber causes all the hydraulic fluid to flow through a damping force adjuster (variable orifice) which is arranged in series with damping valves, both in expansion and contraction strokes of a piston. The diameter of the orifice is variable to control the damping force over a substantial range and thereby set up a damping characteristic optimum for each specific running condition. During the expansion stroke, a check valve of a base valve is opened to eliminate short suction which would otherwise result in cavitation or noise.
