  • Patent number: 6006146
Abstract: There is provided vehicle diagnostic method and apparatus capable of reducing restrictions on the sequence and timing of operations to be performed by an operator for each diagnostic item.In the vehicle diagnostic apparatus, the actual vehicle state detected by the vehicle state detection apparatus 223 is compared with the expected state selected by the selection apparatus 222. For example, while the operator runs the vehicle on purpose to execute the "Vehicle Sensor Diagnosis", if an actual state (vehicle speed VS) is detected by the vehicle state detection apparatus 223, an expected state of the vehicle speed (reference vehicle speed VSref) will be selected by the selection apparatus 222. Then both states are compared by the comparison apparatus 224. When both states are identified as exhibiting an expected relation (e.g., correspondence), the comparison apparatus 224 makes the display 27 indicate that the diagnostic item 1 is passed. Specifically, the indication of "01" is erased from the display 27.

  • Patent number: 5843264
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a vibration insulating assembly including a rubber vibration insulator and metallic members bonded thereto. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing the same, by which the quality of the resulting assembly is improved by providing a high bonding strength between the vibration insulator and metallic members. Retainers are provided about the peripheries of the bonding surfaces of the rubber vibration insulator in order to restrict displacement and deformation of the rubber vibration insulator across the bonding surfaces or at the bonding interface with the metallic members and to facilitate its positioning. The presence of the retainers allows for the application of a predetermined pressure on the bonding surfaces to enhance the bonding strength while preventing an undesirable strain from forming in the bonding surface of the rubber vibration insulator.

  • Patent number: 5754433
Abstract: The computer-aided design system of the present invention is characterized in that a grasping force sensor 4 is mounted on that operating bar 3 at the front end of a manipulator 1 which is grasped directly and operated by an operator, and that the mechanical response characteristics of the system are varied on the basis of an output from the grasping force sensor 4. That is, the rigidity on the part of the manipulator is increased in response to a high grasping force during operation, since the rigidity of the hand is also high; and the rigidity on the part of the manipulator is decreased for a low grasping force during operation, since the rigidity of the hand is also low. In scenes in which a space on a computer screen defining no shapes is crossed by a cusor on the screen, a weak grip will lower the rigidity on the part of the manipulator, thus achieving the feeling of a smooth operation.

  • Patent number: 5360415
Abstract: An anti-infective catheter on which a layer of a water absorbing polymer is formed. Since the layer of the water absorbing polymer swells by absorbing body fluid in subcutaneous tissue, space between the inserted catheter and its peripheral skin moiety is filled quickly, thus preventing penetration of pathogens in the living body along the wall of the catheter. The anti-infective catheter of the present invention can be inserted in the living body easily without forming a site for the arrangement of a cuff and can prevent penetration of pathogens immediately after its insertion without affecting peripheral tissue.

  • Patent number: 4257048
Abstract: An antenna system including a single directional antenna having a single directional gain pattern for receiving electromagnetic waves in a certain direction. The orientation of the directional gain pattern is varied to vary the gain of the antenna in directions other than the certain direction in which electromagnetic waves are to be received. The gain is varied at a frequency higher than that of amplitude variations superimposed on the received electromagnetic waves while maintaining the gain substantially constant in the certain direction in which electromagnetic waves are to be received. The antenna gain variations in the directions other than the certain direction are effective to reduce the amplitude of received undesired electromagnetic waves and thereby diminish amplitude variations caused by these undesired electromagnetic waves.
