  • Patent number: 4645576
Abstract: This invention provides a process for isolating and recovering butene-1 of high purity at high yield. Firstly, a butane-butene fraction containing 0.1 to 7 wt % of isobutylene, 10 to 50 wt % of butene-1 and 5 to 20 wt % of isobutane is rectified to reduce the content of isobutane to not more than 0.1 wt %. Then, the rectified butane-butene fraction is passed through a reactor packed with an extrusion molded silica-alumina catalyst to polymerize isobutylene at a reaction velocity as high as 50 times or more of that of butene-1, thus forming oligomers of isobutylene. Finally, the hydrocarbon mixture from the reactor is rectified to remove the oligomers of isobutylene and the other C.sub.4 -hydrocarbons.

  • Patent number: 4525457
Abstract: This invention discloses a method of immobilizing an enzymatically active material to a water-insoluble polyanion which comprises bringing a polycation-containing aqueous medium and the enzymatically active substance into contact with the water-insoluble polyanion having any desired form. This method is characterized in that the enzymatically active substance is adsorbed on the surfaces of the water-insoluble polyanion and, at the same time, a strong complex is formed by the interaction of the polycation and the polyanion to produce a water-insoluble film. As a result, the enzymatically active substance so adsorbed is securely fixed to the surfaces of the water-insoluble polyanion and scarcely released therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4520178
Abstract: A process for producing a water-insoluble polymer of uniform shape having high strength and a desired geometric form is disclosed. This process comprises the steps of dissolving or partially suspending in water (a) a water-soluble salt of alginic acid, (b) a hydrophilic, crosslinkable vinyl monomer having two or more radical-polymerizable vinyl groups per molecule, and (c) optionally a hydrophilic, radical-polymerizable vinyl monomer; bringing the resulting aqueous solution or suspension into contact with an aqueous solution capable of causing gelation of the water-soluble salt of alginic acid and thereby forming an water-insoluble gel of uniform shape; and subjecting the gel to radical polymerization to produce a water-insoluble polymer.

  • Patent number: 4433098
Abstract: A process involves preparing an aqueous solution of a diolefin-maleic anhydride copolymer prepared by solution polymerization, said aqueous solution being free of tetramethylsuccinonitrile (TMSN), a by-product resulting from the decomposition of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) used as a polymerization initiator for the copolymerization of the diolefin-maleic anhydride copolymer. The aqueous solution free of TMNS is obtained without the separation of the copolymer from the polymerization liquid in which the copolymer was prepared. The process is composed of the two distillation steps, the first distillation being for the removal of a solvent for polymerization and the second distillation being for the removal of water as well as TMSN. The first and second distillation steps can be carried out in a continuous or discontinuous manner.
