  • Publication number: 20020095255
Abstract: A method comprising a first traveling mode in which the traveling environment ahead is recognized and at least one of the engine, the speed change gear, and the brake is controlled on the basis of a signal representing the recognition and a second traveling mode in which at least one of the engine, the speed change gear, and the brake is controlled on the basis of a signal generated by operation of the driver, in which the second traveling mode is selected in an area where vehicle following-up control is difficult.

  • Patent number: 6356206
Abstract: A running surrounding recognizing apparatus is provided. The running surrounding recognizing apparatus is capable of accurately recognizing information in regard to running of a self-vehicle even if a mounting position of a sensor for running surrounding recognition is changed, and to provide a vehicle running control apparatus using the running surrounding recognizing apparatus. The running surrounding recognizing apparatus 1 comprises a communication part 11, a sensing region determining part 12 for determining a sensing region sensed by the running surrounding recognizing apparatus 1 and a sensing part 13. The communication part 11 is connected to external units through a bus 1200 to communicate data in regard to a mounting position of the running surrounding recognizing apparatus 1 on a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6289278
Abstract: A vehicle position information displaying apparatus and method are disclosed in which position information of a preceding vehicle is displayed in a manner superimposed on the form of a road under running of a user's vehicle generated from map information. The apparatus includes a present position detecting unit for detecting the present position of the user's vehicle, a running road selecting unit for selecting a road under running of the user's vehicle from the present position of the user's vehicle, an other vehicle detecting unit for detecting a distance to another vehicle and the azimuth of the other vehicle, an other vehicle position determining unit for determining the position of the other vehicle, and an other vehicle position displaying unit for developing the running road to a plane view or birds-eye view and displaying position information of the user's vehicle and the other vehicle in a manner superimposed on the developed running road.

  • Patent number: 6191704
Abstract: Described herein is a run environment recognizing apparatus. The run environment recognizing apparatus comprises an imaging device for sensing the direction of traveling of a host vehicle as imaging vision, a radar for detecting the direction of traveling of the host vehicle as a detection range, an image processing device for recognizing traveling lanes, leading vehicles and stationary objects located ahead of the host vehicle, based on the image information sensed by the imaging device and the result of detection by the radar, and a display for displaying the results of recognition by the image processing device. The image processing device includes means for setting vehicle regions indicative of the leading vehicles within the image information, based on the result of detection by the radar. Thus, the influence of the leading vehicles in the process for recognizing the traveling lanes within the image information is eliminated by the vehicle regions.
