    Abstract: In a fuel injection system of a direct injection type gasoline internal combustion engine, which is equipped with a fuel injection valve for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of each cylinder, and which is arranged to control period of fuel injection and start-up timing of injection of the fuel injection valve according to operational conditions of an engine, the system is arranged to compulsively stop the fuel injection of the fuel injection valve when the pressure in a cylinder exceeds the pressure of the fuel supplied to the fuel injection valve.
