    Abstract: An audio coding apparatus comprises a frequency converter which performs frequency conversion on an audio signal to obtain frequency conversion coefficients, an importance calculator which calculates importance levels of frequency components corresponding to the frequency conversion coefficients obtained by the frequency converter, a coder which performs entropy coding of the frequency conversion coefficients to generate codes of the frequency conversion coefficients, and a comparing unit which compares an amount of the codes generated by the coder with a preset target code amount, wherein the coder performs the entropy coding in order of the importance levels until the comparing unit determines that the amount of the codes generated by the coder reaches the target code amount.

    Abstract: An audio coding apparatus comprises a frequency converting unit which performs a frequency transformation, a band dividing unit which divides a frequency band of frequency transformation factors into sub bands, a band width of the sub bands being narrower for a lower frequency sub band and wider for a higher frequency sub band, a retrieving unit which retrieves one of the frequency transformation factors for each sub band which has a maximum absolute value, a shift number calculating unit which calculates a shift bit number so that the one frequency transformation factor retrieved for each sub band is not more than a quantization bit number that has been determined in advance in each sub band, a shift processing unit which performs a shift processing for the shift bit number with respect to the frequency transformation factors, and a coding unit which encodes the shifted frequency transformation factors.

    Abstract: An image reading apparatus which reads a fingerprint image, includes a roller rotatably mounted to the image reading apparatus, a given pattern being printed on part of an outer surface of the roller in a circumferential direction, a line sensor including a plurality of image pickup elements which read a fingerprint image from a finger that touches with the roller as well as the pattern printed on the roller, a generating unit which generates a reference value to each of the image pickup elements corresponding to part of the line sensor, which reads the pattern, based on image data of the pattern, a rotation sensing image extracting unit which extracts a rotation sensing image based on the reference value, and a determination unit which determines capture timing of the fingerprint image based on variations in the rotation sensing image.

    Abstract: In a printing apparatus, an operation panel includes an LED display unit for displaying various kinds of states of the apparatus, an LCD display unit, and a switch unit for setting various kinds of parameters of the apparatus, test printing and the like. By operating the switch unit, a plurality of various kinds of parameter settings, such as the selection of paper cassettes, external interfaces, page description languages and the like, and combinations of the setting set by operating the switch unit can be registered in a setting storage unit using a setting registration switch. An arbitrary one of the plurality of set contents registered in the setting storage unit is called using a setting calling switch, and is displayed on the LED display unit or the LCD display unit. After printing has been started, printing is executed in accordance with the set contents displayed on the display unit.
