  • Patent number: 6246451
Abstract: The present invention relates to a stereoscopic image displaying method and stereoscopic image displaying apparatus for interchangeably displaying a stereoscopic image and a two-dimensional image or for displaying a mixed stereoscopic image and two-dimensional image. In accordance with the present invention, light from a surface illuminant is passed through a mask substrate in which a mask pattern comprised of a plurality of apertures is formed. The light then is guided through a cylindrical lens array and a light directivity control element of polymer distributed liquid crystal having a stripe pattern, and thereafter the light irradiates a transmissive display device for displaying a stripe image having a parallax, or a two-dimensional, image. Control region stripes of the light directivity control element are brought into a non-scattering state when the stripe image is displayed on the display device.

  • Patent number: 5812516
Abstract: An information recording system includes a recording medium, and a probe electrode provided at a location opposed to the recording surface of the recording medium. The probe electrode is capable of recording on the recording medium by application of a voltage between the probe electrode and the recording medium. An elastic member supports the probe electrode for motion relative to a base member arranged perpendicular to the recording surface. The distance between the recording surface and the probe electrode is adjustable by a mechanism provided for that purpose. The displacement of the probe electrode caused by an interatomic force acting between the recording medium and the probe electrode is detected, and a displacement signal based on the detected displacement is output. A control circuit feeds back the displacement signal so that the probe electrode can move back to its original position.

  • Patent number: 5541729
Abstract: In measuring apparatus for detecting relative displacement of a diffraction grating, a light beam is separated in an optical unit such as polarizing beam splitter into a reflected light beam and a transmitted light beam which beams are projected onto the diffraction grating. The diffracted light of the reflected and transmitted light beams are deflected by a deflection unit to be projected again onto the diffraction grating for rediffraction. The rediffracted light of the reflected and transmitted light beams are combined in the polarizing beam splitter and a detector detects the interference state of the combined rediffracted light. The deflection unit deflects the diffracted light beams of the reflected light and transmitted light so that they reenter the diffraction grating after traveling along the same optical path in the directions opposite to each other.
