Abstract: A magnetic recording device according to one embodiment includes a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic recording layer; a recording element positioned on a head slider; an assistance element for supplying assistance energy to an area on the recording layer to which a recording magnetic field generated by the recording element is applied, the assistance element being positioned on the head slider; and a controller for controlling a size of an assistance area from the assistance element in accordance with a position of the head slider in a radial direction of the magnetic recording medium. Additional systems and methods are also presented.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a magnetic disk drive capable of suppressing variations in flying height of a magnetic head caused by decrease in the amount of a low density gas inside a housing and a control method therefore. According to one embodiment, the magnetic disk drive includes a magnetic head, a magnetic disk, and a housing containing the magnetic head and the magnetic disk, wherein the housing is filled with a low density gas having a lower density than air. An amount of the low density gas in the housing is estimated and, based on the amount of the low density gas, a flying height of the magnetic head from a surface of the magnetic disk is controlled.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a disk drive capable of writing information on data tracks even more positively when a shingle write method is adopted. In one embodiment, the disk drive is characterized in that, when information is to be written on a plurality of adjacent data tracks on a recording medium through the shingle write method, writing of information is controlled by detecting an actual writing position based on servo information recorded on the recording medium and determining whether or not the detected actual writing position meets a predetermined condition.

Abstract: A method by a server of transmitting pass/fail information of an exam to an examinee terminal of an examinee via a network is disclosed. The method includes transmitting a confirmation mail asking whether to require the pass/fail information; receiving a response mail; recording reception time at which the server receives the response mail; determining, based on the reception time, an order in which to transmit a pass/fail information address at which the pass/fail information is located; and transmitting the pass/fail information address to a predetermined number of the examinee terminals depending on the transmission order and a load on the server. When the pass/fail information is released, the transmitting system can avoid the concentration of accesses to the pass/fail information from the examinees, and further avoid overload on the network and system.

Abstract: A server of a facsimile information managing system receives facsimile image information, stores it, generates index information, which refers to its storage location, transmits it, accepts a request for specifying the storage location, and transmits facsimile image information stored in the specified storage location, a relay relays index information, the request for specifying the storage location of the facsimile image and facsimile image information, a client accepts an input for selecting the storage location of facsimile image information from the index information, transmits the request for specifying the selected storage location to the server, receives facsimile image information transmitted by the server, and displays it. An HTML format is used in index information, a GIF format is used in facsimile image information, and a WWW browser is used in processing of client.

Abstract: A settlement procedure selection support method according to the present invention compares a credit card handling fee imposed when a settlement procedure by credit card is selected and a remittance fee imposed when an Internet banking settlement procedure is selected. When the remittance fee is smaller than the credit card handling fee, the method according to the present invention induces a user to select the Internet banking settlement procedure having a condition that a sales agent of an Internet shopping system bears the remittance fee.
