  • Patent number: 6904362
Abstract: An information center generates packets of route guidance information, each corresponding to a prescribed road length of a recommended route. The information center may generate major guide point information and guidance information and transmit both to a vehicular apparatus. The vehicular apparatus provides guidance only for major guide points based on the received major guide point information if it cannot receive the guidance information. According to another aspect of the invention, if the end of a route segment which was the subject of the preceding route guidance information is on an expressway or toll road, guidance information for a preliminary route from that end to an escape position ahead on the expressway or toll road is first transmitted and then information for a remaining route, that is a segment of the recommended route having the prescribed road length minus the preliminary route, is then transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20010046872
Abstract: A mobile communication apparatus according to the invention is for use in, for example, a mobile communication system. The mobile station is provided with a clock for maintaining time. The mobile station transmits a time correction request command to a base station for correction of the time maintained by the clock. The mobile station corrects the time maintained by the clock based on current time information transmitted from the base station. Transmission of the time correction request command is performed automatically without a user's intervention to originate a call. More specifically, upon receipt of control information transmitted from the base station via a common control channel, the mobile station automatically transmits the time correction request command to the base station. With this, extra steps for time correction are eliminated and the user does not incur extra costs.

  • Patent number: 6282490
Abstract: A map display device is presented including an information memory device for storing map data, a display device for displaying a map based on map data stored in the information memory device, and a display control device, which has a coordinate transformation device for transforming coordinates on a curved plane into coordinates on a projected plane, for controlling the readout of map data from the information memory device and the map display on the display device. The display control device relates coordinates on the map to coordinates on the curved plane with respect to a coordinate transformation reference point, transforms coordinates on the curved plane into coordinates on the projected plane using the coordinate transformation device, and displays a map on the display device by using the coordinates transformed on the projected plane. Therefore, the device enables a driver to obtain the same sense of distance unaffected by the direction by using the present position.

  • Patent number: 6269304
Abstract: The invention provides a driver with notice of a certain traffic lane change on a road having many traffic lanes even if passing intersections exists within a predetermined distance before a guide intersection. Specifically, the invention concerns a vehicle navigation system for performing a route search on the basis of the input of a point, such as a destination and further performing route guidance along the searched route, which includes an information memory device for storing traffic lane information at intersections, a display for displaying the traffic lane information and a display controller for displaying traffic lane information at intersections on the display on the basis of the traffic lane data stored on the display. The display controller determines whether a passing intersection exists within a predetermined distance before the guidance intersection and controls so as to display lane information of the passing intersections and guidance intersection when the passing intersections exists.

  • Patent number: 6266613
Abstract: In a navigation apparatus for a vehicle, an entire route from a start point to a destination is determined and the vehicle is guided to the destination in accordance with the determined route. In the navigation apparatus, an entire route from a start point to a destination is first determined. Route determination is performed for a part of the entire route in accordance with a request of a user, and the entire route to the destination is determined again based on the result of the determination performed for the part of the entire route. The navigation apparatus has a first remaining-distance displaying unit and a second remaining-distance displaying unit. The first remaining distance display unit displays an arrow indicating the route and the remaining distance to an intersection. The second remaining-distance display unit deletes the display of the distance provided by the first remaining-distance display unit and changes the length of the arrow, which indicates the route, as the vehicle advances.

  • Patent number: 5652706
Abstract: Geographical, guide or search information and route information are stored in storage sections. An arithmetic section provides a route researching function with preference for the traveling direction of a vehicle. A route-calculating section is provided for re-calculating the route, and a route guide control system is also provided, inclusive of a route deviation-detecting section. The re-calculating section calculates either the shortest route from the point of deviation to the previous route or a new route to the destination. In case of the search of the shortest route to the previous route, the shortest route from the present location to the previous route is searched giving preference to the traveling direction, e.g. avoidance of a U-turn, on the basis of the search information relating to the immediate vicinity of the present location, so that the route to rejoin the previous route can be quickly calculated.

  • Patent number: 5638279
Abstract: A vehicle navigation system realizing a discrete display of the present position of a vehicle during a period from when the vehicle reaches a predetermined distance before an intersection until the vehicle passes the intersection. Especially, in a zone a short distance before the intersection, the present vehicle position mark is fixed at the center of the displayed intersection until the travelling direction of the vehicle is changed. Thereby, even when the accuracy of monitoring of the present position is relatively low, misindication, such that the present position is displayed as if the vehicle has passed straight through the intersection in spite of not having actually reached the intersection, is avoided.

  • Patent number: 5559511
Abstract: A route guidance section compares the current position provided by a current position determination section and the route provided by a route calculation section for detecting an off-route condition. When the off-route condition is detected, a researching key as well as the route and current place is displayed on a display section. When the researching key is touched, a search is again made for a new route from the current position to the destination. Then, route guidance is again started in response to the researching result. When the researching key is not touched, the route and current place continue to be displayed while the vehicle carrying the apparatus travles off route, thereby efficiently preventing the apparatus from executing unnecessary researching when the driver drives the vehicle off route on purpose.

  • Patent number: 5452212
Abstract: A navigation system for use in a vehicle including a route-calculating section and a route guide control section. The route-calculating section searches for an optimum route according to conditions set for the search. The guide control section provides displays necessary to guide the driver of the vehicle, and guides the driver by speech. This guide control has a landmark name-setting section which sets the names of landmarks according to information about the landmarks, the information retrieved from a guidance information storage section according to information about the present position from a present position-determining section. A display section displays a whole route map indicating the selected route according to instructions from the route guidance control section. At the same time, the names of the landmarks are presented on the display section.
