    Abstract: This invention provides a method of manufacturing laser diodes having a high efficiency and a high optical output and showing an excellent temperature-dependent performance at a high yield. The method comprises steps of forming a mesa on a p-type compound semiconductor substrate 1 by sequentially arranging at least a p-type compound semiconductor cladding layer 2, an active layer 3 and an n-type compound semiconductor compound layer 4, burying the lateral sides of said mesa with a p-type compound semiconductor buried layer 6 and an n-type compound semiconductor current blocking layer 7, removing said n-type compound semiconductor current blocking layer 7 partly at areas contacting each of the lateral sides of said mesa to partly expose the p-type compound semiconductor buried layer 6 in the vicinity of said mesa and then burying the remaining space with a p-type compound semiconductor current blocking layer 8.

    Abstract: In a structure for removably mounting a support rod for an openable closure member such as engine hood, trunk lid or the like of a motor vehicle, a retainer member of a plastic material is mounted on at least one end of the support rod, and an anchor member of a plastic material which is adapted for engagement with the retainer member, is mounted in a mounting aperture formed either in the vehicle's body or the openable closure member. By virtue of the engagement between the retainer member and the anchor member, the support rod is removably retained with respect to either the vehicle's body or the openable closure member, thereby supporting the openable closure member at its open position.

The support rod is pivotal at one end thereof and adapted to be inserted at the other end thereof in a recess structure which is disposed in such a manner that the axis thereof makes a predetermined angle with the axis of the support rod when the latter is free and assumes the position to support the engine hood as mentioned above.

    Abstract: A hinge includes first and second members, a backing member, and a connecting member. The connecting member connects the backing member to the second member in such a manner as to be able to vary the distance between the second and backing members. A brittle object is located between the second and backing members. First and second packings are provided between the brittle object and the second member, and between the brittle object and the backing member, respectively. A spacer is provided between the second and backing members. The dimension of the spacer along the distance between the second and backing members is chosen so that when the connecting member is adjusted until the spacer comes into contact with both the second and backing members, the second and backing members clamp therebetween the brittle object by way of the packings with an optimal clamping force exerted on the brittle object.
