  • Patent number: 5818170
Abstract: A gyrotron system comprises an electron gun that produces an electron beam, a magnetic field generating unit comprising a permanent magnet and two electromagnets and capable of generating an axial magnetic field that drives electrons emitted from the electron gun for revolving motion, a cavity resonator that causes cyclotron resonance maser interaction between the revolving electrons and a high-frequency electromagnetic field resonating in a natural mode, a collector for collecting the electron beam traveled through the cavity resonator, and an output window through which a high-frequency wave produced by the cyclotron resonance maser interaction propagates. The gyrotron system can be fabricated at a comparatively low cost, is easy to operate, has a comparatively small size and is capable of operating at a comparatively low running cost.

  • Patent number: 5528609
Abstract: Disclosed is a subscriber loop carrier system wherein, to synchronize the phases of frames and multiframes from a plurality of subscriber loop carriers, corrections are made on the phases of frames and multiframes without relying on memory storage. The phase difference of the frame and multiframe phases with respect to a reference phase is detected at the receiving end. The detected phase difference is transmitted from the receiving end to the transmitting end. At the transmitting end, the phases of frames and multiframes being formed are controlled on the basis of the detected phase difference.

  • Patent number: 5222119
Abstract: A telephone system comprises a multi-channel transmission apparatus for connecting a subscriber line to a telephone exchanger, where the transmission apparatus comprises: a subscriber interface for interfacing said subscriber line; a detecting circuit in the subscriber interface for detecting a change in a voltage on the subscriber line; and a discriminating circuit for discriminating whether the change detected by the detecting circuit is continuous or intermittent, upon discriminating the detected change in voltage as intermittent the discriminating circuit outputs a first alarm signal. The discriminating circuit may be formed of a software counter which counts a number of the intermittent signals for a predetermined period. The software counter does not require a bulky and expensive components, such as a 60 Hz filter. If the counted number is larger than a predetermined number the signal is determined to be intermittent.

  • Patent number: 5147319
Abstract: A winged needle with which the needle can be safely exposed and covered. The winged needle comprises a base into which the needle is rooted, wings which can be folded to cover the needle, sheath-portion of the wings which surrounds the needle on all sides when the wings are folded, and a coupling device which couples the wings. This structure enables a user to handle the winged needle from the base side without having his hand face the needle tip, significantly reducing the possibility of puncturing the user's hands.

  • Patent number: 5117710
Abstract: A shift control device of an automatic transmission causes the transmission to be forcedly shifted to a parking range or a neutral range when the shift ranges indicated by a shift instruction signal produced by a range selector and a current shift range signal produced by a detector are not coincident with each other. After such a forced shift, the shift control device tries to shift the transmission once again as formerly instructed by the range selector, and it is detected once again whether the shift ranges indicated by the current shift range signal and the shift instruction signal coincide with each other.

  • Patent number: 4649880
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling movement of a throttle valve in response to a change in the position of an accelerator pedal. The apparatus includes a control circuit powered from a power source through an ignition switch for determining a value corresponding to a setting of the position of the throttle valve. A throttle actuator is connected to the control circuit for moving the throttle valve to the determined setting. A device is provided to retain the control circuit powered from the power source until the throttle actuator returns the throttle valve to its closed position after the ignition switch is turned off.

  • Patent number: 4494205
Abstract: In a method of rolling metal for producing a metal plate or a metal sheet having a desired range of thickness through a sequence of rolling passes, variations in the deformation resistance of the metal along the longitudinal direction of the metal are detected, variations in deformation resistance and the resulting variations in rolling force in the finishing pass are estimated, and the rolling for obtaining the necessary thickness of the metal at the entrance of the finishing pass is carried out under a combination of a feedback automatic gauge control process and feed-forward automatic gauge control process, whereby variations in the rolling force are cancelled even if the metal which is to be rolled has skid marks thereon.

  • Patent number: 4369714
Abstract: A cable car type vehicle arrester features a pair of trumpet bars which are interconnected by a link which either maintains the distance between the bars constant or reduces same upon one of the bars being deflected outboard of its home or rest position. This reduces the free swinging time of the vehicle between bars and increases the distance through which the bars subsequent to the initial deflection are deflectable by the vehicle. This accordingly increases the stroke of shock absorbers associated with the bars increasing the conversion of the kinetic energy of the vehicle. Casters can be provided to support the bars to allow longer lighter bars with less robust bearing and structural members. The casters can be run on a corrugated surface to cam the bars vertically further increasing the kinetic energy conversion and endow a self-centering action on the arrester.
