Publication number: 20030059221Abstract: With a push of a maintenance button disposed on a printer, printer information mail is created based on information previously stored in a memory, and sent to a mail server. The sent mail is read by a support server, the support server extracts maintenance information that best suits the contents of the sent mail from a database, and sends it as maintenance information mail to the mail server in reply to the mail. When the maintenance information mail arrives at the printer, cleaning is performed or error remedy is displayed or printed, according to the contents of the maintenance information mail.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2002Publication date: March 27, 2003Applicant: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 6449055Abstract: A print system capable of exchanging data in the form of electronic mail between a plurality of computer systems using very low-cost communication via the Internet 28, rather than one-on-one communication. When the printer driver 30 of a personal computer 4 selects a personal computer 10 on another computer system as the destination for transmitting print data, the printer driver 30 and the print mail transmission utility 31a create print mail in which a mail header including print information is added to the print data for the contents of the mail, and the print mail is transmitted via the Internet 28 addressed to the personal computer 10. The print mail reception utility 31b of the personal computer 10 receives the print mail and prints the print mail on a printer 14 based on the print information included in the mail header.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2000Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Satoshi Okimoto, Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 6426799Abstract: When the received mail is determined to be print mail in S981 based on its mail header, the program first determines in S982 what page description language is used to describe the print data in the mail. In S983, the program selects a printer which is being presently set to interpret that page description language. Then, in S1040, print data in the print mail is printed using the printer thus selected in S983. If there exists no printer appropriately set to interpret that page description language, the program selects in S983 a printer provided with a function to interpret that page description language. The program then sets the function mode of the printer into a mode to interpret the page description language. Then, in S1040, print data in the print mail is printed using the thus selected and set printer. Thus, the print mail is printed by a printer which can appropriately interpret the processing format of the print data included in the received print mail.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Satoshi Okimoto, Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 6333791Abstract: When the print sheet number determined based on the mail header is equal to or higher than the predetermined value (“Yes” in S996), the print confirmation screen is displayed in S997 to request the user to indicate whether or not to print the print mail. If the program determines in S998 that the user has indicated his/her desire to print, then the mail is printed in S1030 and S1040. However, if the user has not indicated a desire to print, the print operation is not performed. With this configuration, not all received print mail is immediately targeted for printing. The user can defer printing of print mail having a large amount of data according to circumstances on the receiving end. The large amount of print mail data will not occupy the printer on the receiving end for a long period of time. Hence, urgent or important printing can be given a higher priority.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: December 25, 2001Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Satoshi Okimoto, Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 6317193Abstract: An image forming apparatus is provided to smoothly form images corresponding to received image data even if the memory becomes full when collated printing is executed. If the memory never becomes full during collated printing, images for all of the pages are expanded to intermediate data, stored in a page memory, and complete collated printing is enabled. In the meantime, if the memory becomes full while the print data of part of a page is expanded to intermediate data and stored, the controller, controls so that the page memory can be written after collated printing is executed up to a page immediately before the partial page and the residual pages are printed in the form of collated printing. Therefore, even if the memory becomes full, printing can be executed in a form as close to collated printing as possible.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1998Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 6310694Abstract: A mail transmission/reception system, in which a user on the transmitting end, who wishes to revise or delete a print mail mistakenly sent to a remote user, can transmit a cancel mail to the destination address of the same remote user to have the specified print mail deleted on the remote user's computer system in S690, thereby preventing the print mail from being printed on the remote user's end. Also, the user on the transmitting end can know whether the printing has been prevented based on mail returned from the remote user in S660-S680 and can take appropriate measures when the mail cancellation has not been successful.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Satoshi Okimoto, Hiroyuki Funahashi

Publication number: 20010019426Abstract: A laser beam printer 1 is connected to a host computer and receives job data 100 from the host computer. The job data 100 includes a transmission time information 103. If the laser beam printer 1 is provided with a clock IC 98, a CPU 91 of the laser beam printer 1 reads a current time from the clock IC 98 and set the current time as receiving time information. On the other hand, if the laser beam printer 1 is not provided with the clock IC 98, then the CPU 91 sets the transmission time information 103 included in the received job data 100 as the receiving time information.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2000Publication date: September 6, 2001Applicant: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 6268926Abstract: In a mail reception side, it is judged in S994 whether or not the number of sheets required to print the received print mail becomes equal to or higher than a prescribed number. This judgment is performed based on the mail header added to the print mail. When the number of sheets to be printed with the print mail is equal to or higher than the prescribed number, the print data included in the print mail is compacted so that one-fourth the amount of printing paper will be needed. Thus, even if print mail containing a large number of pages for printing is received, the printing side can adjust the number of pages, into which the print mail is printed, without deleting the contents of the print mail. Accordingly, the time required for printing is also reduced to one-fourth the time required for printing at the original ax state. Hence, even if print mail containing a large number of pages for printing is received at an unexpected time, the time required for printing is automatically reduced.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Brother Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Satoshi Okimoto, Hiroyuki Funahashi

Patent number: 5433187Abstract: In a diamond cutting saw blade, a plurality of slits 1 are formed at regular intervals on the outer periphery of a disc-shaped iron substrate 2, and a plurality of segment chips 3 are fixed onto the outer periphery of the disc-shaped iron substrate 2. Two trapezoidal concave portions 4 which expand outwardly are formed on both sides of the outer periphery of each segment chip 3. Further, a trapezoidal concave portion 5 is formed at the intermediate position of the segment chip 3 on a joint surface of the iron plate 2 so as to expand toward the joint surface. At the corner where a bottom surface 4a and a tapered surface (side surface) 4b of the concave portion 4 formed on the outer periphery intersect, there is formed a curved surface 4c having a radius of 1.0 to 2.5 mm. Similarly, in a concave portion 5 formed in the inner periphery of the segment chip 3, there is formed a curved surface 5 c having a radius of 1.0 to 2.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1994Date of Patent: July 18, 1995Assignee: Noritake Diamond Industries Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kenji Hayasaka, Seiya Ogata, Yoji Niizawa, Hiroyuki Funahashi
