  • Patent number: 6440824
Abstract: In crystallizing a semiconductor thin film of large area by overlapping regions of irradiation with a laser beam, uniform crystallinity of the film is achieved. A semiconductor thin film is crystallized by performing shaping laser light emitted to define a laser beam which has a predetermined intensity distribution in a predetermined irradiation region, and repeatedly irradiating the semiconductor thin film with the laser beam while scanning the film so that irradiation regions may be overlapped. The laser beam is shaped so that the sectional intensity distribution of the laser beam in the irradiation region as taken in the direction of the scanning may be convex, and that the peak of the intensity distribution lies at a position which is between the front end and rear end of the irradiation region in relation to the scanning direction and which is nearer to the front end with respect to the middle of the irradiation region.

  • Patent number: 6414314
Abstract: A passive-type infrared detector 1 includes an infrared sensor 3, a pair of lens elements (optical elements) 4R and 4L, a pair of mirrors 5R and 5L and a casing 2. The lens elements 4R and 4L are used to define detection areas a+ and a− opposed substantially 180° to each other for the infrared sensor 3. The mirrors 5R and 5L are used to direct infrared rays of light from the detection areas towards the infrared sensor 3. When this passive-type infrared detector 1 is installed at a position intermediate of an alert region, a combination of the infrared sensor 3, one of the lens elements 4R and one of the mirrors 5R is effective to monitor a range from one end of the alert region to the intermediate position whereas a combination of the infrared sensor 3, the other of the lens elements 4L and the other of the mirrors 5L is effective to monitor a range from the opposite end of the alert region to the intermediate position. Therefore, one half of the alert region may be a detection distance.

  • Publication number: 20010052886
Abstract: An object of the invention is to improve moving-picture quality of an active matrix type liquid crystal display apparatus. The apparatus comprises liquid crystal pixels disposed in matrix configuration, a line drive circuit sequentially scanning each line of the pixels at every frame repeating with a predetermined frequency, and a column drive circuit writing image signal into the pixels in sync with the sequential scanning. The frame is divided into a preceding and following sub-frame. The line drive circuit scans sequentially for the preceding and following sub-frame. The column drive circuit writes image signal originally assigned to a frame into the pixels for the preceding sub-frame, and then writes an image signal for adjusting image quality into the pixels for the following sub-frame. The image signal for adjusting image quality is obtained by operating the image signal assigned to the frame and an image signal assigned to the next frame.
