Patent number: 5790903Abstract: A zoom lens device has a helical movement barrel and a drive ring mounted in a fixed barrel to be rotatable about an optical axis. The helical movement barrel holds front and rear lens groups therein. The drive ring is rotated by a motor through gears. The drive ring is coupled to a helical movement barrel with a clearance in the circumferential direction, so the drive ring can rotate relative to the helical movement barrel within an angle defined by the clearance. While the drive ring rotates relative to the helical movement barrel, the rotational movement of the drive ring causes a cam barrel to move along the optical axis relative to the helical movement barrel. The axial movement of the cam barrel causes the rear lens group to move along the optical axis. When the drive ring is rotated beyond the angle defined by the clearance, the rotational movement of the drive ring causes the helical movement barrel to rotate together with the cam barrel.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1997Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroyuki Iwasaki, Hiroshi Tsuchitani

Patent number: 5790259Abstract: Each of a detection sample object and a non-detection sample object is illuminated with S-polarization light, for instance. S-polarization light and P-polarization light reflected from each sample object are detected by different photodetecting elements. Glossiness values and light quantities of the detection and non-detection sample objects are judged based on detection outputs of the photodetecting elements, and a glossiness difference and a light quantity difference are calculated. An evaluation function having at least one of the glossiness and the light quantity as a variable is determined by using the glossiness difference and the light quantity difference. Thresholds for object discrimination are calculated based on evaluation function values of the detection and non-detection sample objects.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1996Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Omron CorporationInventors: Shinji Mizuhata, Hayami Hosokawa, Arata Nakamura, Nobuharu Ishikawa, Hiroyuki Inoue, Satoru Shimokawa, Masahiro Kurokawa, Kohei Tomita, Norimasa Yamanaka

Patent number: 5789900Abstract: A device for protecting a secondary battery from overcharge and overdischarge has two switches and two diodes respectively connected in parallel with the switches. Each diode is conductive in the same direction as a parasitic diode included in the associated switch. When one of the switches is turned off, a current flows through the diode connected to the switch prior to the parasitic diode of the switch. This prevents a current from flowing through the switch in the opposite direction. The switches are, therefore, free from deterioration and damage and allow the protection device to surely operate without being damaged. Alternatively, a charge path and a discharge path may be connected in parallel with each other, and each may have a serial connection of a switch and a diode opposite in direction to a parasitic diode included in the switch.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1995Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroyuki Hasegawa, Masafumi Hirata, Koji Sagae

Patent number: 5790920Abstract: A toner image processing apparatus performs a printing operation and a cleaning operation. A toner-attracting electrode includes first and second electrodes disposed closer to the charged surface of a photosensitive drum and outside of a path through which the light from the exposing device illuminates the charged surface. During the toner attracting operation, a toner-recovering device causes the toner-attracting electrode to attract the toner particles floating in the air surrounding the exposing device, and reversely charged toner particles and residual toner particles left on the photosensitive drum after the toner image is transferred to the print medium. During the toner-releasing operation, the toner-recovering device causes the toner-attracting electrode to release the attracted toner particles to the photosensitive drum. The toner-attracting operation is performed during the printing operation and the toner-releasing operation is performed during the cleaning operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1997Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignees: Oki Data System Co., Ltd., Oki Data Corp.Inventors: Osamu Teramura, Hiroyuki Yajima

Patent number: 5790237Abstract: A cleaning structure for an out-of-liquid conveying portion whose object is to facilitate detachment and attachment of a cleaning nozzle unit from and to a crossover rack, and to hold cleaning nozzles in predetermined positions suitable for the out-of-liquid conveying portion in a state in which the cleaning nozzle unit has been mounted to the crossover rack. In order to mount the cleaning nozzle unit to the crossover rack, the cleaning nozzles are made to penetrate through through-holes defined in one of side walls of the crossover rack. In this state, an interlocking member is elastically flexed so as to be inserted into an interlocking hole. After completion of its insertion of the interlocking member, a hook is brought into engagement with an upper edge of the interlocking hole by elastic recovery of the interlocking member. As a result, a case can be mounted to the side wall.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1996Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kouki Nomura, Hiroyuki Satoh

Patent number: 5789861Abstract: A photomultiplier is constituted by a photocathode and an electron multiplier having a typical structure in which a dynode unit having a plurality of dynode plates stacked in an incident direction of photoelectrons, an anode plate, and an inverting dynode plate are sequentially stacked. Through holes for injecting a metal vapor are formed in the inverting dynode plate to form secondary electron emitting layers on the surfaces of dynodes supported by the dynode plates, and the photocathode. With this structure, the secondary electron emitting layers are uniformly formed on the surfaces of the dynodes. Therefore, variations in output signals obtained from anodes can be reduced regardless of the positions of the photocathode.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1996Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Hamamatsu Photonics K.K.Inventors: Hiroyuki Kyushima, Koji Nagura, Yutaka Hasegawa, Eiichiro Kawano, Tomihiko Kuroyanagi, Akira Atsumi, Masuya Mizuide

Patent number: 5788944Abstract: Exhaust gas from combustion equipment such as a boiler is brought into contact with an absorbing liquid to absorb sulfur oxide from the exhaust gas into the absorbing liquid. Limestone particles having larger diameters are selectively retained in a zone wherein the absorbing liquid that has absorbed the sulfur oxide from the exhaust gas is neutralized. The absorbing liquid containing water and the gypsum thereby formed, as main constituents, are selectively drained from the neutralizing zone and recycled for renewed contact with the exhaust gas. Because of the possibility of a large decrease of desulfurizing performance due to a variation in the load on the boiler, etc., at least one of the following is monitored: pressure drop across the neutralizing zone, torque of a stirring device, solids concentration in the absorbing liquid, specific gravity of the absorbing liquid and viscosity of the absorbing liquid. Responsive to the monitored parameters outlet SO.sub.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1995Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Babcock-Hitachi Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hirofumi Kikkawa, Fumito Nakajima, Hiroyuki Kaku, Shigehito Takamoto, Hiroshi Ishizaka, Shigeru Nozawa, Masakatsu Nishimura, Takanori Nakamoto
