    Abstract: A high strength, ultra high modulus carbon fiber is characterized by the presence of the (112) cross-lattice line and the resolution of the diffraction band into two distinct lines (100) and (101), which indicate the three-dimensional order of the crystallite of the fiber. It has an interlayer spacing (d.sub.002) of 3.371 to 3.40 .ANG.; a stack height (Lc.sub.002) of 150 to 500 .ANG.; and a layer size (La.sub.110) of 150 to 800 .ANG..
