  • Publication number: 20150138693
Abstract: [Problem to be Solved] The present invention is aimed at providing a polarizable electrode material for a high-withstand-voltage-type electric double layer capacitor with a high energy density and less degradation over time in capacitance and resistance, that is, excellent long-term reliability; and at providing an electric double layer capacitor in which the polarizable electrode material is used. [Solution] Disclosed are the polarizable electrode material used in an electric double layer capacitor and comprising porous carbon particles, a conductive assistant, a tungsten oxide powder and a binder, wherein the tungsten oxide is dispersed in the polarizable electrode material so that the tungsten oxide per 1 g of the polarizable electrode material has a surface area of 0.2 m2 or more and less than 6 m2; and the electric double layer capacitor in which the polarizable electrode material is used.

  • Patent number: 8848338
Abstract: Disclosed is an electric double layer capacitor comprising a polarizable electrode layer that contains an activated carbon, a conductive agent, and a binder, wherein an external specific surface area of the activated carbon (defined as a specific surface area calculated from a nitrogen absorption isotherm by a t-plot method by excluding micropores of pore diameter smaller than 20 angstroms), per unit volume of the polarizable electrode layer, lies within a range of 450 to 800 m2/cm3, and a volume based on inter-particle interstices per unit volume of the polarizable electrode layer lies within a range of 0.05 to 0.12 cm3/cm3. The electric double layer capacitor according to the present invention is particularly suited to large current, quick discharge applications.

  • Publication number: 20100226069
Abstract: The invention is directed to the provision of an electric double layer capacitor electrode that can fully utilize the electrode performance of a graphite-like carbon material by preventing degradation of the cycle characteristics. More specifically, the invention provides an electric double layer capacitor electrode constructed by laminating a polarizable electrode layer containing a carbon material having graphite-like microcrystalline carbon to at least one side of a sheet-like current collector, wherein the carbon material has a BET specific surface area of 800 m2/g or less as measured by a nitrogen adsorption method, and the sheet-like current collector has interstices on the side that contacts the polarizable electrode layer.
