    Abstract: The invention provides a dielectric material for a plasma display panel which has a low dielectric constant, can be fired at a low temperature, for example, 600° C. or below, causes no warpage in a glass substrate when fired on the glass substrate and can increase the strength of the glass substrate when fired on the glass substrate, and a glass plate for a plasma display panel including a dielectric layer formed using the dielectric material. The dielectric material for a plasma display panel according to the present invention is a dielectric material for a plasma display panel containing ZnO—B2O3—SiO2-based glass powder, wherein the glass powder contains substantially no PbO and contains, by mole percent, 1% (inclusive) to 10% (exclusive) ZnO, 26% (inclusive) to 50% (inclusive) B2O3 and 42% (exclusive) to 52% (inclusive) SiO2.

The powder of colored glass comprises a base glass and coloring ingredients added thereto. The coloring ingredients comprise CoO and NiO. The powder of colored glass provides a glass film having a spectral transmittance T%(460 nm) of 50-75% at the wavelength of 460 nm or a glass film having a spectral transmittance T%(460 nm) higher than a spectral transmittance T%(550 nm) at the wavelength of 550 nm and a spectral transmittance T%(620 nm) at the wavelength of 620 nm. The glass film is formed by applying the colored glass powder onto a soda lime glass plate having a thickness of 1.7 mm and by baking the colored glass powder to form a baked film having a thickness of 20-40 &mgr;m as the glass film.

Preferably, the glass powder preferably may have the maximum particle diameter D.sub.MAX which is not more than 18 .mu.m. Desirably, the green sheet essentially may consist by weight of 60-80% the glass powder, 0-10% ceramic powder, 5-30% thermoplastic resin, and 0-10% plasticizer.
