  • Patent number: 6296269
Abstract: An air bag cover is formed of synthetic resin and is connected to and held by the body of a car in a plurality of discontinuous portions thereof along the peripheral edge of an opening formed on the interior side of the car in such a manner that the air bag cover not only can cover an air bag folded in the peripheral edge of the opening on the car interior side, but also, when an air bag main body of the air bag is developed and expanded, can be so opened and moved as to allow the air bag main body to project toward the opening side. The air bag cover further includes a restricting wall which projects toward the body of the car in such a manner that it can connect together these connecting/holding portions while the restricting wall is disposed on the back surface side of the air bag cover, in more particular, on the side of the folded air bag main body that is distant from the opening and on the opening side of connecting/holding portions.

  • Patent number: 6224467
Abstract: A method of producing an ocular lens, comprising the steps of: (a) preparing a lens blank which gives an ocular lens, the lens blank having a concave back surface and a convex front surface, at least a portion of the front surface being tapered to give a tapered surface; (b) forming a back curved surface of the ocular lens by effecting a cutting operation on the concave back surface of the lens blank, while the lens blank is supported on a spindle of a back surface cutting device such that the tapered surface of the lens blank is drawn onto a tapered holding surface of the spindle under a negative pressure applied to the lens blank, the tapered holding surface following a profile of the tapered surface of the lens blank; and (c) forming a front curved surface of the ocular lens by effecting a cutting operation on the front surface of the lens blank whose back surface has been cut to form the back curved surface, while the lens blank is supported on a spindle of a front surface cutting device such that the bac

  • Patent number: 6079732
Abstract: A structure for arrangement of an occupant protective apparatus for a vehicle includes: an inflator disposed at a predetermined position of a vehicle body and adapted to eject a gas at a time of a side collision when a high load is applied to a side of the vehicle body; a bag stored in a folded state in such a manner as to extend between a front pillar and a roof side rail and adapted to be inflated in a shape of a curtain below the roof side rail in a vehicle compartment by a gas supplied from the inflator, the bag being disposed in a space formed between a body panel and an interior member disposed on an inner side of the vehicle compartment with a predetermined interval with the body panel; and an energy absorbing member provided in the space and disposed in close proximity to the bag so as to absorb an impact from the inner side of the vehicle compartment.

  • Patent number: 4904548
Abstract: In order to control a fuel cell having a fuel cell stack to which reformed fuel and oxidizing agent are supplied, an output current from the fuel cell is detected while the voltage of the fuel cell is maintained at a constant voltage and the amount of the fuel and/or the oxidizing agent is controlled in accordance with the detected output current to stably generate electric power. At least one of a plurality of unit cells constituting the fuel cell stack is used as a monitoring cell having a current-voltage characteristic curve which is lower than that of the other unit cells, and an output current from the monitoring cell is detected while the voltage of this cell is maintained at a constant voltage, and the supplied amount of the fuel and/or the oxidizing agent is controlled in accordance with the detected current value to stably generate electric power output.

  • Patent number: 4657826
Abstract: A fuel cell system for replacement of fuel gas includes a fuel cell having a fuel chamber, a fuel supply subsystem communicating with the fuel chamber of the fuel cell and a contact-type burner installed in the fuel supply subsystem for burning, with air, fuel derived from the fuel supply subsystem. At the time of start of operation of the fuel cell, in the operating state of the burner, a feed quantity of the fuel gas to be introduced into the burner is gradually increased while a feed quantity of the air to be introduced into the burner is decreased from 100% to 0% so that the air in the fuel chamber is replaced with the fuel gas. At the time of stop of operation of the fuel cell, in the operating state of the burner, the feed quantity of the fuel gas to be introduced into the burner is gradually decreased while the feed quantity of the air to be introduced into the burner is increased from 0% to 100% so that the fuel gas in the fuel chamber is replaced with the air.

  • Patent number: 4657828
Abstract: A fuel cell system is disclosed including a fuel cell having a fuel supply subsystem including a fuel chamber and an air or oxygen supply subsystem including an air or oxygen chamber, a burner, in which fuel derived from the fuel subsystem of the fuel cell is burned with air or oxygen, and a storage tank, in which combustion gas produced in the burner is stored as replacement gas so that the replacement gas is fed from the storage tank into the fuel subsystem of the fuel cell at the time of start and stop of operation of the fuel cell.

  • Patent number: 4599282
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fuel cell having separate plates acting as bipolar plates which are sandwiched between the two adjacent cell elements. A cell stack of a fuel cell is formed therein with tunnel-shaped cooling gas passages extending between and open at two opposite sides thereof. Reactive gas supply passages for fuel gases and air are isolated from the cooling gas passages and extend between and open at the two opposite sides thereof which are different from those of the cooling gas passages. Therefore, the separate plates have their reactive gas supply passages supplied through manifolds, which are arranged at the sides of the fuel cell in a manner to face the entrance and exit ports of the reactive gas supply passages. The reactive gases are supplied at rates sufficient to be consumed by the galvanic reaction. The cooling gas passages are supplied through manifolds, which are arranged at the other sides of the fuel cell, i.e. different from the sides of the reactive gas supply passages.

  • Patent number: 4549175
Abstract: Image display apparatus provided with an address converter aiding the apparatus in faithfully reproducing for display an optical image transmitted via an optical fiber bundle. The address converter is adapted to store information concerning the relation between the geometric address of the individual optical fibers at one end face of the optical fiber bundle and that at the other end face so as to permit conversion of one geometric address to the other. The small elements of an image transmitted through the individual optical fibers to the rear end of the bundle are rearranged in accordance with the geometric address of the fibers on the front end to complete an image conforming to the original transmitted image.
