Abstract: A machine translation system includes a translation processor, a display, and a display controller. The display has original and translated sentence display sections. The display controller has a display managing section and a display format controller. The translation processor translates a given original sentence by accessing a dictionary. The translated and original sentences are displayed in the translated and original sentence display sections, i.e., right and left display sections of the display. The original and translated sentences are managed by the display magaging section in predetermined units of translation processing. The display format controller controls the original and translated sentences such that start lines of a given group thereof are horizontally aligned with each other.

Abstract: This invention relates to a display method, and in particularly, to an output display method for a machine translation system, Display section has a predetermined portion for translated sections, and identifies original sentences or characters when a referring request is made to a part of the translated sentences. Highlight display of original sentences may be scrolled synchronously with the scrolling of the translated sentences or independently.

Abstract: A machine translation system has a display section, an original storage section for storing an original sentence, a dictionary storing linguistical information necessary for translation processing, a translation processing section for translating the original sentence for each predetermined processing unit to obtain a translated sentence, a translation storage section for storing the translated sentence, an edit processing section for executing edit processing for the original and translated sentences, and an input section for inputting instruction information. In addition, the system has a display control section for realizing a first display mode for displaying the original and translated sentences respectively on original and translation display sections of a display screen of the display section, a second display mode for mainly displaying the original sentences on the display screen, and a third display mode for mainly displaying the translated sentences on the display screen.

Abstract: A language expression data base is adapted to store expression data of an input sentence of a first language to be translated into a second language and the expression data stored in the language expression data base is renewed under the control of an expression data input unit. An input basic form sentence structure data extracted from the input sentence of the first language is translated into a basic form sentence structure data of the second language at the sentence structure transfer unit. A basic form sentence of the second language is obtained on the basis of the basic form sentence structure data of which an expression is then modified according to the expression data stored in the language expression data base, and a modified sentence of the second language is displayed on a display through an output unit.

Abstract: A machine translation processor according to the present invention includes an input section having a keyboard with a partial translation command key, a translation processing section having dictionaries for performing translation of an original sentence, a time measuring section for measuring the actual translation time performed in the translation processing section, a memory for storing both the original and translation sentences, a dividing section for dividing the original sentence into phrases in accordance with a predetermined rule for division, and a control section for controlling the translation of the original sentence such that when the partial translation command key is operated or the actual translation time measured reaches a predetermined maximum translation time, the original is divided into phrases by the dividing section and the phrases are translated by the translation processing section.
