  • Patent number: 6109164
Abstract: A push rod of a vacuum booster includes an inner rod section, a pipe-shaped outer rod section which is slidably fitted over an outer periphery of a rear portion of the inner rod section and connected to a brake pedal, and a buffer member made of a synthetic resin and fitted over the outer periphery of the inner rod section in front of the outer rod section. Usually, an end face of the outer rod section is retained in a position in which it abuts against a projection of the inner rod section. When an axial compressing force is applied to the push rod upon a collision of an automobile, the end face of the outer rod section slides forwards over and past the projection, while buckling the buffer member. Thus, the pushing-up of the brake pedal toward a vehicle compartment due to the retreating movement of a master cylinder is prevented, and the load applied to a driver's foot is alleviated.

  • Patent number: 5080188
Abstract: A mounting structure for a vehicle deceleration sensor, comprising a deceleration sensor mounted on a part of a vehicle body where a longitudinal end of a front side member extending along a fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle body on one side thereof and a bulkhead separating a passenger compartment from a front part of the vehicle body are joined together with a part of the deceleration sensor protruding into the hollow interior of the front side member. Thus, a deceleration resulting from a vehicle crash is quickly transmitted to the deceleration sensor through the front side member, and the deceleration sensor is protected from adverse environmental effects as it may be located in the interior of the front side member.

  • Patent number: 4974873
Abstract: In an air bag module mounted on a steering wheel in an automobile for use, an inflater is connected to a power source through an actuating circuit to rapidly supply a high pressure gas into an air bag of the module when a dceleration of a vehicle body higher than a predetermined value is sensed, and interrupting means is provided for the purpose of preventing the malfunction of the module. The interrupting means automatically interrupts the actuating circuit in concurrence with removal of the air bag module from the steering wheel.

  • Patent number: 4840325
Abstract: A seat belt tightening device for removing slack in a seat belt when the seat belt is required to positively restrain a passenger, comprising clamp members for clamping a part of the seat belt paid out from a retractor device; a winding member for winding thereonto a portion of the seat belt that is located ahead of the part clamped by the clamp means by a rotary motion; and a drive source for causing a rotational motion of the winding member. The winding member may be either integral with one of the clamp members or separate from both of them.

  • Patent number: 4697827
Abstract: A seat belt device provided with a reach arm having a fore end to which a free end of a seat belt is tied, which reach arm is at a rearward withdrawn position when the seat belt is not in use whereas it is swung, when the seat belt is in use, to be projected forwardly to enable wearing of the seat belt. The reach arm assumes a compact form with an intermediate portion thereof folded in a non-used position whereas it assumes a straight state in use. A belt connecting hole provided at the fore end of the reach arm is shaped so as to hold the seat belt on a longitudinal extension of the reach arm when the reach arm is at an operative position. The reach arm is further designed foldable in a direction substantially perpendicular to its swinging direction when applied with a great shock at the operative position thereof.

  • Patent number: 4682789
Abstract: Disclosed is a seat belt forwarding device for facilitating the fastening of a seat belt by rotating a rotary arm in a forward direction, in conjunction with a walk-in type seat, comprising, a rotary unit for forwardly rotating the rotary arm in response to a closing action of a door and backwardly rotating the rotary arm in response to an opening action of the door and cam means for controlling the backwardly inclined position of the rotary arm in such a manner that the rotary arm may be positioned along a seat back when the seat back is in its upright position and substantially along a floor behind the seat when the seat back is in its forwardly inclined position. Thereby, when the seat back is inclined forwardly, the rotary arm will not obstruct the access to the rear seat, and, when the seat back is upright, the rotary arm aligns along the seat back, and the rotary arm will not impair the comfort of the rear seat.

  • Patent number: 4650215
Abstract: Disclosed is a seat belt forwarding system having a rotary arm carrying an end of a seat belt at its free end. The rotary arm is driven by a tension cable by way of a rotary unit having three transmitting members which are coaxially arranged and supported in a freely rotatable manner. By advantageous arrangement of the transmitting members, even when motion of the rotary arm is obstructed, spring means advantageously absorb the resultant force and no excessive force will be produced in the rotary unit. The first spring means biases the second transmitting member in a rearward direction while the second spring means is engaged between the second and the third transmitting members. The transmitting of force between the transmitting members is achieved by projections provided in the opposing surfaces of the transmitting members, in addition to the transmission of force between the second and the third transmitting members by the second spring means.

  • Patent number: 4635963
Abstract: A seat belt device having a seat belt one end of which is moved back and forth by a lever. The other end of the seat belt is connected to a retractor mounted on the vehicle body, and the intermediate portion of the seat belt is loosely fitted through a hanger mounted on the vehicle body. A tongue plate is carried on the seat belt and engageable with a buckle attached to a seat for fastening the seat belt. When the door is opened, the seat belt is moved rearward by the lever to allow a passenger to get in and off the vehicle with ease. When the door is closed, the seat belt is moved forward by the lever to permit a passenger on the seat to catch the seat belt easily. When the lever is moved into the forward position, its distal end is located above an upper surface of a seat bottom, forward of a front surface of a seat back, and below a straight line passing through a front end of the upper surface of the seat bottom and an upper end of the front surface of the seat back.

  • Patent number: 4575119
Abstract: A seat belt device including a webbing having one end movable back and forth with a lever. The webbing has an opposite end connected to a retractor and an intermediate portion extending loosely through a through anchor. The lever has a lower end pivotally mounted on an automobile body, and an upper movable end to which the end of the webbing is secured. To allow the lever to be moved with a small driving force, front and rear limits of the range of angular movement of the upper end of the lever are positioned symmetrically with respect to a straight line passing through the through anchor and the lower end of the anchor, and the retractor has a winding limiting mechanism for keeping a predetermined length of webbing unwound.
